Oliver Roggisch (born August 25, 1978 in Villingen-Schwenningen ) is a former German handball player . He is the sporting director of the Rhein-Neckar Löwen and team manager of the German national handball team .

Career

As a player

The 2.02 m tall runner and defense specialist began his career at TuS Schutterwald . Further stations were Frisch Auf Göppingen and TUSEM Essen . From Essen he moved to SC Magdeburg on July 1, 2005 and after the 2006/07 season to the Rhein-Neckar Löwen . Here he had already signed a three-year contract in December 2006. Most recently, he was rarely used in the circular position and played, both in the club and in the national team, mostly only in defense. After the 2013/14 season he ended his career.

With 497 time penalties in 432 games, he is only eleven penalty times behind Volker Zerbe in second place in the all-time ranking.

National team

Roggisch made his international debut against Switzerland in Dessau on March 15, 2002 . He took the national team to the World Championships in 2005 , 2007 , 2009 , 2011 and 2013 , and at the European Championship in 2006 , 2008 , 2010 and 2012 in part. In total, Roggisch played 205 international matches in which he threw 48 goals.

In 2007 he celebrated his greatest success and became world champion with Germany . For this triumph he was awarded the silver bay leaf . In the same year, he also won the EHF Cup with SC Magdeburg. In 2013 he won the EHF Europe Cup with the Rhein-Neckar Löwen .

At the European Championships in Norway in 2008 he reached 4th place, but had to pass injured after the main round.

As a trainer

On May 13, 2014, it was announced that Roggisch ended his career with the Rhein-Neckar Löwen at the end of the 2014/15 season as an active player and moved to the sidelines as assistant coach of Nikolaj Bredahl Jacobsen for the following season . He is also the team manager of the German national handball team . In March 2016, he also became the sporting director of the Rhein-Neckar Löwen, which is why Klaus Gärtner, the previous coach of the second team, took over his position as assistant coach from the 2016/17 season.
