Nikolaj Bredahl Jacobsen (born November 22, 1971 in Viborg ) is a Danish handball coach who was active as a handball player in the top Danish league and in the German Bundesliga . In 2019 he became world champion with the Danish national team.

Career

Jacobsen learned to play handball with GOG Gudme , with whose men's team he won the Danish championship three times. In the 1997/98 season, the left winger played for Bundesliga club Bayer Dormagen . The Dane scored a total of 189 goals and was third in the Bundesliga scorers list. When Dormagen was relegated at the end of the season, he moved to THW Kiel . In the following years, he won three championships, five DHB trophies and two EHF trophies with the Kiel team . When knee problems no longer allowed the stresses of the Bundesliga, Jacobsen left the THW Kiel in 2004 after a total of 212 competitive matches.

Jacobsen worked from the 2004/05 season at Viborg HK as an assistant coach and player. In the summer of 2007, the Dane joined Bjerringbro-Silkeborg , where he only worked as an assistant coach. When Bjerringbro / Silkeborg had to do without several players due to injury in February 2009, Jacobsen was reactivated again. Since the summer of 2012 Jacobsen has coached the Danish first division club Aalborg Håndbold , with whom he won the Danish championship in 2013. For the 2014/15 season he moved to the Rhein-Neckar Löwen , where he succeeded Guðmundur Guðmundsson . He finished second with the lions in 2015 and won the German championship with them in 2016 and 2017 . Since March 2017 he has also been coaching the Danish national team, with which he became world champion in his own country in 2019 . After the 2018/19 season, he gave up his coaching position with the Rhein-Neckar Löwen.

National team

Jacobsen played a total of 148 international matches for Denmark . He participated in the World Championships in 1993 , 1995 and 1999 as well as in the European Championships in 1994 , 1996 and 2000 . On September 27, 1998, the winger set the goal record of the Danish selection with 15 goals in an international match.
