This article describes the
men's handball championship in 2000 . For the women's championship, see

The 4th men's handball European championship was held from January 21 to 30, 2000 in Croatia . The Swedish national handball team won the title with a final victory over Russia. The German selection only finished ninth, Austria and Switzerland could not qualify for the European Championship finals.

Preliminary round
In the preliminary round, the twelve qualified teams played in two groups of six teams each. Within a group, each team competed once against each other team. The two best teams in each group qualified for the semi-finals.
