European Handball Championship 2018 / squad

16 teams took part in the 13th Men's Handball European Championship , which took place in Croatia from January 12th to 28th, 2018 . Each team was allowed to register 16 players. Injured players were allowed to be replaced, a total of six changes per team were allowed to be made during the tournament. In this article the roster lists of the participating nations are presented.

Guðjón Valur Sigurðsson from Iceland had the most international matches and goals of all participants with 343 appearances and 1,798 goals before the start of the tournament.

The oldest player to take part in the 2018 European Championship was Austrian Vytautas Žiūra (born May 11, 1979), followed by Czech goalkeeper Martin Galia (born April 12, 1979) and Macedonian Kiril Lazarov (born May 10 1980).

The youngest player to take part in the 2018 European Championship came from Serbia with Milan Jovanić (born January 24, 1998) .

The Icelander Guðjón Valur Sigurðsson not only had the most international matches of all participants with 343 appearances, but also the most international goals (1,798). He was followed by Nikola Karabatić (France, 284 games) and his compatriot Ásgeir Örn Hallgrímsson with 252 games. The players with the most international goals after Sigurðsson were Macedonia's star Kiril Lazarov with 1,203 and the French Nikola Karabatić with 1,130 international goals. A total of four players did not have a single international match at the start of the 2018 European Championship. These were Raphaël Caucheteux (France), Martin Velkovski (Macedonia), Martin Popovski (Macedonia), Matic Suholežnik (Slovenia).

The largest team on average at the European Championship 2018 was the Serbian team with 195 centimeters , followed by Germany , Hungary and the Czech Republic with 194 centimeters each. The tallest players were Finn Lemke ( Germany ) and Marko Kopljar ( Croatia ) with 210 centimeters each, followed by Michal Kasal (Czech Republic) with 209 centimeters. The Austrian Tobias Schopf was the smallest player with only 170 centimeters, followed by Péter Hornyák (Hungary) with 175 centimeters and Martin Popovski (Macedonia), Nemanja Ilić (Serbia), and Miha Zarabec (Slovenia) with 177 centimeters each. With an average height of 190 centimeters, Austria provided the smallest team.

Iceland

The Icelandic national team played in the preliminary round in Group A against Sweden (26:24), Croatia (22:29) and Serbia (29:26). Despite the same number of points and better goal difference compared to the Serbian team, the Icelanders were eliminated from the group bottom due to the direct comparison.
