Linus Mattias Arnesson (born May 11, 1990 in Hedemora ) is a Swedish handball player who is currently under contract with the Bundesliga club Bergischer HC .
Career
society
Arnesson moved from IFK Hedemora to Redbergslids IK in 2006 at the age of 16 . At 17 he made his debut in the Swedish first division and became the youngest captain of the Swedish division to date. In 2017 he scored nine goals in the game against IFK Ystad HK and after the game he scored 1,184 goals in the Redbergslids shirt. He replaced Fredrik Pettersson (1,181) as Redbergslids most successful shooter of all time. In the same season he was also elected MVP of the Swedish league with a total of 164 goals and 144 assists .
For the 17/18 season he signed a contract with the second division Bergischer HC .
National team
Arnesson made his national team debut on July 14, 2017 against Montenegro. At the beginning of 2018 he was appointed to the EM squad of the Swedish national team, with whom he surprisingly came second and thus took silver. His performance in the semifinals against Denmark attracted particular attention, in which he scored the decisive goal in extra time to 35:33 and contributed a total of six goals to the victory of the Swedes.
Others
In November 2011 Arnesson described his previous alcohol problems to the Aftonbladet , especially in the run-up to the 2011 U-21 World Cup in Greece . He came there drunk because he had consumed alcohol almost every day after training. Ultimately, his former club Redbergslids and coach Magnus Wislander helped him to find a rehab clinic in Gothenburg and to stop his dependence on alcohol.
He was later diagnosed with ADHD causing his alcohol addiction .
