Maarten van Garderen (born January 24, 1990 in Renswoude ) is a Dutch volleyball and beach volleyball player .
Career
Indoor volleyball
Van Garderen started his career at SSS Barneveld in 2006 . In the 2011/12 season he played for Orion Doetinchem and became Dutch champions with the club. The attacker won the Europa League with the Dutch national team in 2012 . Then van Garderen was active in the second Italian division (A2) with Corigliano Volley. From there he moved to the French first division club Beauvais Oise. In 2014 he was signed by the German Bundesliga club VfB Friedrichshafen . With the club he won the DVV Cup and the German championship . He also played in the Champions League , in which Friedrichshafen reached the first playoff round against Resovia Rzeszów . Since van Garderen felt underchallenged in Germany, he moved to the Italian first division club CMC Ravenna . In 2017 he moved on to Modena Volley.
beach volleyball
Van Garderen formed a beach volleyball duo with Vice World Champion and Olympian Christiaan Varenhorst in 2017 . At the four-star tournament in Rio de Janeiro , he took part in the FIVB World Tour for the first time and reached 17th place. Then Varenhorst / van Garderen played the tournaments in Moscow and The Hague . In Kharkiv they won the CEV satellite tournament in the final against the Ukrainians Denyn / Popow . For the world championship in Vienna they received one of three wild cards and finished fourth.
