Christiaan Varenhorst (born May 6, 1990 in The Hague ) is a Dutch beach volleyball player .
Career
Varenhorst was ninth with Alexander Brouwer in the youth world championship in Mysłowice in 2007 and reached fifth place in the same competition the following year in his hometown. Then he came with Brouwer in the final of the Junior World Championships in Brighton . In 2010 the duo played their last joint tournament at the Mysłowice Open. Varenhorst played in changing formations for the rest of the year.
At the Brasília Open 2011 he met Jon Stiekema . The duo took a few top places in smaller tournaments and played at the EM in Kristiansand in August , where they lost in the round of 16 against the German Erdmann / Matysik . Things went better at the European Championships in The Hague in 2012 , when Stiekema / Varenhorst finished fifth. At the 2013 World Championships in Stare Jabłonki , Varenhorst played with Daan Spijkers because of a foot injury by Stiekema and finished in 17th place. Stiekema / Varenhorst also finished fifth at the 2014 European Championship in Cagliari . Since mid-2014, Varenhorst has been playing alongside the multiple European and Olympian Reinder Nummerdor . At the FIVB World Tour , Nummerdor / Varenhorst won the São Paulo Grand Slam and the Mangaung Open. In 2015, the two Dutch were runner-up in their home country .
In 2016, Nummerdor / Varenhorst won the Grand Slam in Moscow and took fifth place at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro .
After Reinder Nummerdor's career ended, Varenhorst played alongside the indoor national player Maarten van Garderen in 2017 . On the FIVB World Tour , Varenhorst / van Garderen played the tournaments in Rio de Janeiro , Moscow and The Hague . In Kharkiv they won the CEV satellite tournament in the final against the Ukrainians Denyn / Popow . For the world championship in Vienna they received one of three wild cards and finished fourth. Jasper Bouter Varenhorsts has been a new partner since the end of 2017 . On the FIVB World Tour 2018 , Bouter / Varenhorst had numerous top ten placements and finished fifth at the domestic European championship .
