Jon Stiekema (born May 8, 1988 in Groningen ) is a Dutch beach volleyball player . His sister Michelle Stiekema is also a professional in this sport.

Career

Stiekema finished ninth at the Junior World Championships in Brighton in 2008 with Sven Vismans . In 2009 he formed a duo with Tim Oude Elferink and played his first open tournaments. After starting with Daan Spijkers in 2010 , he won the Continental Cup in Montpellier in 2010 and the satellite tournament in Aalsmeer in 2011 alongside Richard Schuil . At the Brasília Open he got together with his current partner Christiaan Varenhorst . The duo took a few top places in smaller tournaments and played at the EM in Kristiansand in August , where they lost in the round of 16 against the German Erdmann / Matysik . Things went better at the European Championships in The Hague in 2012 , when Stiekema / Varenhorst finished fifth. At the 2013 World Cup in Stare Jabłonki , Stiekema could not take part due to a foot injury. Stiekema / Varenhorst also took fifth place at the 2014 European Championship in Cagliari .
