Beach volleyball European championship 2011

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 2011 European Beach Volleyball Championship took place in Kristiansand ( Norway ) from August 9th to 14th . The competitions for women and men were held in parallel. In the women's category, the Italians Greta Cicolari and Marta Menegatti won their first title with a final victory over the Austrians Barbara Hansel and Sara Montagnolli . The dethroned defending champions Sara Goller and Laura Ludwig won the bronze medal against the Czech duo Hana Klapalová and Lenka Háječková . There was a purely German final for the men, which Julius Brink and Jonas Reckermann won against Jonathan Erdmann and Kay Matysik . The defending champions Reinder Nummerdor and Richard Schuil from the Netherlands took third place.

mode

32 teams each competed for women and men. In eight preliminary round groups, four teams each played “everyone against everyone” to get into the knockout round. There were two points for a win and one point for a loss. If two teams were tied, the direct comparison decided. In the event of a tie between three teams, the ratio of ball points from the games between these three teams was decisive. The three best teams from each group reached the knockout round, with the group winners qualifying directly for the round of 16. In the simple " knockout system " it went on until the final. The winning teams of the tournament each received 20,000 euros in prize money and 500 points for the world rankings.

Group games

In Group A, the number one seeded Dutch duo remained undefeated and also beat the Italians with a 24:22 in the tie-break. The Norwegians managed to win against Hansel / Montagnolli, but achieved a maximum of ten points per set in the other games and therefore had the worst ball point ratio of the three tied teams in the end.

While the three top seeded pairs survived the second round, the tournament ended at this point for the German duos Holtwick / Semmler and Brink-Abeler / Gernert as well as the Schwaiger sisters. In the quarter-finals, the Austrians Hansel / Montagnolli surprised the Dutch duo Keizer / van Iersel. The German champions were also eliminated. KO round

In the first main round, Laciga / Weingart won the Swiss-Austrian duel and thus reached the second round as one of three thirds in the group, where they failed, however, on the second competitor from the neighboring country. The three German duos all made it through, although Klemperer / Koreng and Erdmann / Matysik each needed the tiebreak to prevail. The series of Alpine duels continued in the quarter-finals, with the Swiss again being successful this time. Klemperer / Koreng were narrowly defeated by the Dutch defending champions, who were then dethroned in the semi-finals by Erdmann / Matysik and won bronze. Thus it came to a purely German final, in which Brink / Reckermann celebrated their first joint European title.
