Julia Sude (born September 2, 1987 in Giessen ) is a German beach volleyball player . She is the daughter of the former volleyball player Burkhard Sude . She was German champion in 2010, 2017 and 2019 and military world champion in 2014. Sude has been a top international player since 2015, and will be part of the team with Chantal Laboreur until the end of 2018 .

Career

2003 to 2009

Julia Sude began her career as a beach volleyball player in 2003. She played her first tournaments with Janina Göpfert and then formed a duo with Florentina Büttner . At the U18 European Championship in Brno , Büttner / Sude lost the German final against Köhler / Ludwig . A year later they reached the final again at the same competition in Mysłowice and this time were defeated by the Polish duo Urban / Wiatr . At the German championship in Timmendorfer Strand they finished ninth. They then came in third at the U18 World Cup in Termoli . In 2005 Sude achieved some top results in the national series and a ninth place in the German championship with Sandra Eichmann . With Büttner she was third in the U18 World Cup in Saint-Quay-Portrieux .

From 2006 Sude played with Claudia Lehmann . Sude / Lehmann won the national tournaments in Dresden and Fehmarn and finished ninth in the German championship. They also played some CEV tournaments. With Jennifer Eckardt , Sude became U20 European Champion in Ankaran . At the U21 World Cup in Mysłowice she reached the final with Jana Köhler , which was lost in the tie-break against the Brazilians Barbara / Carolina . In 2007 Lehmann / Sude achieved further top ten results in the national series, including a tournament victory in Sankt Peter-Ording and ninth in the CEV Masters in Hamburg . In Berlin they contested their first Grand Slam on the FIVB World Tour and at the satellite tournament in Vaduz they reached the final. They finished seventh at the U23 European Championship in Paralimni as well as at the German championship. At the U21 World Cup in Modena , Sude and Eckart took 17th place. In 2008 Lehmann / Sude repeated their second place in Vaduz and finished seventh again in the German championship. In November they came ninth in the Sanya for the first time in a tournament of the world series in the top ten. In 2009 they achieved the same result at the Osaka Open and the Grand Slam in Marseille . At the World Cup in Stavanger, however, they were eliminated as the bottom of the group after the preliminary round. With Karla Borger , Sude was third in the U23 European Championship in Kaliningrad . Lehmann / Sude finished the German championship in fifth place. After finishing fourth in Moscow , they finished fifth at the World Tour Final in Hamburg.

2010 to 2012

In 2010 Sude formed a new duo with Jana Köhler . On the World Tour 2010 , Köhler / Sude initially did not get beyond double-digit results. Nationally they won the tournament in Sankt Peter-Ording . At the EM in Berlin they won their preliminary group and the second round before they had to admit defeat to the Dutch Keizer / van Iersel in the quarter-finals . A week later they also finished fifth at the Åland Open. In the final of the German championship they prevailed against the European champions Goller / Ludwig and won their first title. At the 2011 World Cup in Rome , they came in second in the knockout round. In the second round they managed to take revenge against Keizer / van Iersel before they were eliminated in the quarter-finals against Klapalová / Háječková . At the European Championships in Kristiansand they lost to the new European champions Cicolari / Menegatti in the quarter-finals . They achieved their first top ten result on the 2011 World Tour as fifth at the Åland Open. At the German championship, the defending champions lost the new edition of last year's final against Goller / Ludwig. In 2012 they did not achieve a top ten result at FIVB tournaments and they finished ninth at the CEV Masters in Baden . The same result was achieved at the European Championships in Scheveningen , where they lost the round of 16 against the Greek Tsiartsiani / Arvaniti as group winners . The duo then split because Sude was unable to play any more tournaments during the season due to an injury to his wrist .

2013 to 2018

Sude returned in 2013 and has played with Chantal Laboreur ever since . In their first season together, Laboreur / Sude finished third at the satellite tournament in Montpellier and fifth at the Challenger tournament in Seoul . At the Universiade in Kazan they won the bronze medal. They also played on the World Tour . Nationally they won the tournaments in Mannheim and Sankt Peter-Ording . In the German championship they stayed in fourth place after losing to Holtwick / Semmler and Borger / Büthe . Then they won two “Zonal Events” of the CEV in Rottenburg and Montpellier. In December they reached the final at the Durban Open, which they lost to the Chinese women Xia Xinyi and Xue Chen . At the beginning of the 2014 season, Laboreur / Sude won the satellite tournament in Anapa . On the World Tour they finished ninth in Fuzhou , fourth in Puerto Vallarta and fifth in the Anapa Open. At the European Championships in Quartu Sant'Elena they came second in the group in the first knockout round, in which they were eliminated against the Czechs Bonnerová / Hermannová . In Warendorf they won the military world championship. Then Sude played a few tournaments with Laura Ludwig , who was looking for a replacement for her sick partner Kira Walkenhorst . Ludwig / Sude finished ninth in the Grand Slams in The Hague and Long Beach and fifth in Klagenfurt . In Stare Jabłonki they lost to the Brazilians Larissa / Talita in the final . At the German championship they also made it to the final and were defeated by Borger / Büthe. With Laboreur, Sude won the CEV Masters in Biel / Bienne and Baku .

Laboureur / Sude started the 2015 season with a second place in Fuzhou , where they lost the final against Canadians Broder / Valjas . With a fifth place in Prague and various ninth places they established themselves on the FIVB World Tour . At the World Cup in the Netherlands, they were group winners in the first knockout round to the Kazakh duo Maschkowa / Zymbalowa . They were also 17th in Gstaad and Yokohama . At the EM in Klagenfurt they stayed in the preliminary round without losing a set and won the German round of 16 against Holtwick / Semmler, before they were eliminated in the round of 16 against the Russians Ukolowa / Birlowa . They then finished ninth in Long Beach and fifth in Rio de Janeiro . In the German championship they had to admit defeat to Ludwig / Walkenhorst and Holtwick / Semmler and came fourth. In Fort Lauderdale they finished ninth in the World Tour Final. The same result was achieved at the first tournaments of the World Tour 2016 . After a fifth place in Vitória and a fourth place in Xiamen, they were only defeated in Fuzhou in the final against the US duo Walsh / Ross . In Sochi , they were fifth and in Antalya ninth. At the EM in Biel / Bienne they came as group winners to the quarter-finals, which they lost in the tie-break against Ukolowa / Birlowa. A month later they reached the final of the Poreč Major with a win against Borger / Büthe, in which they defeated the Canadians Pavan / Bansley , with which they celebrated their first tournament victory on the World Tour. At the following major tournaments in Gstaad and Klagenfurt they were fifth and ninth. Although they were among the top five in the world rankings, they missed qualifying for the Olympic Games in Rio because of the restriction to two teams per nation . They finished third at the Grand Slam in Long Beach . Then they won the CEV Masters in Jūrmala in a German final against Mersmann / Schneider . At the German championship they lost to the Olympic champions Ludwig / Walkenhorst in the final.

At the FIVB opening tournament in Fort Lauderdale in 2017 , Laboreur / Sude clearly won the game for third place 2-0 against Summer Ross / Brooke Sweat . In June they won the CEV Masters in Baden, Austria . In July they won the 5-star major tournament in Gstaad after a 2-0 final against world number one Larissa and Talita from Brazil. Shortly afterwards, Laboreur / Sude received the status of the "German national team" from the DVV . At the World Cup in Vienna they reached the quarter-finals after five wins without losing a set, where they lost 2-0 to Canadians Humana-Paredes / Pavan . Then they came at the EM in Jūrmala without losing a set in the semi-finals, which they lost against the Czechs Kolocová / Kvapilová . In the match for bronze they prevailed against the Poles Kołosińska / Gruszczyńska . At the FIVB season finale in Hamburg , Laboureur / Sude took fifth place. In Timmendorfer Strand , Laboreur / Sude became German champions after a 2-1 final win against Melanie Gernert and Tatjana Zautys .

In 2018, Laboureur / Sude started the FIVB World Tour with 17th place at the 5-star tournament in Fort Lauderdale and fifth at the 4-star tournament in Xiamen . At the 4-star tournament in Huntington Beach they landed on the podium for the first time with third place. This was followed by ninth place in Itapema , fifth in Ostrava , second in Warsaw and second in Gstaad . At the EM in the Netherlands, Laboreur / Sude were eliminated in the quarter-finals. After finishing fourth in Moscow , they finished fifth at the World Tour Final in Hamburg. At the German championship , Sude competed with Leonie Körtzinger and finished fourth.

Since 2019

In 2019 Sude forms a new duo with Karla Borger . Borger / Sude won the national Techniker Beach Tour 2019 in Münster and finished ninth at the world championship in Hamburg . On the FIVB World Tour , third place in Kuala Lumpur (3-star), fifth place in Jinjiang (4-star) and fourth place in Tokyo (4-star) were their best results. She won her third title at the German championship. At the beginning of November Borger / Sude won the 3-star tournament in Qinzhou .

Others

In the ProSieben show Beginner versus Winner , broadcast on August 4, 2018 , Laboreur / Sude competed in a beach volleyball duel. They had to wear flippers as a handicap , but still prevailed against two students from Leipzig .
