Xue Chen ( Chinese 薛 晨 ; born February 18, 1989 in Nanping , People's Republic of China ) is a Chinese beach volleyball player .
Career
Xue Chen started her sports career in 2000 at the Fuzhou Sports Training School. Two years later, the Chinese graduated from Fuzhou Athletic Sports College. With Yan Ni she played two international youth beach volleyball tournaments. For the first time at the FIVB World Tour , Xue started in Rhodes in 2004 with Ren Zhengqing. If the two Asians failed there and at their second tournament in Shanghai in the first round of the qualification, they fought for 25th place in Osaka . As the best placement with her new partner You Wenhui, Xue Chen achieved 17th place the following year.
In 2006 she competed on the World Tour with Zhang Xi . The two athletes from China were able to win their second tournament in Shanghai. After reaching the finals in Saint Petersburg and Warsaw , they achieved another victory in Phuket at the last event of the year. Then Xue Chen was named the season's top rookie. The next year, Xue and Zhang reached the semi-finals in nine of sixteen events, finished second in Montreal , Kristiansand and Hong Kong (Challenger & Satellite tournaments) and received bronze medals at Sentosa as well as in Warsaw and Åland . At the World Championships in Gstaad they lost both the semi-finals against the eventual world champions Walsh / May-Treanor and the game for third place against the Brazilians Larissa / Juliana and finished fourth.
In 2008 the Chinese won in Seoul and Moscow and took third place in Osaka and Gstaad . However, they achieved their greatest success at the Olympic Games in the capital of their home country. In Beijing , Xue Chen and Zhang Xi lost the semifinals to their compatriots Tian Jia and Wang Jie , but then won the third-place game and bronze medal against Brazilians Talita and Renata. After the subsequent separation from Zhang Xi, Xue Chen did not reach the semifinals once at an FIVB tournament with both Zhang Ying and Ji Linjun, the best placings were a seventh place in Seoul and Phuket.
2010
Xue Chen and Zhang Xi, who were now again become partners, started with a seventh place in Brasília in the World Tour 2010 , then they were in Shanghai and Rome Fifth, in Seoul they finished ninth. They achieved their first victory of the year at the Grand Slam in Moscow. After finishing fifth in Stavanger , the bronze medal in Gstaad , seventh in Marseille and ninth in Klagenfurt , the Chinese reached the final five times in a row. They were able to win the tournaments in Åland and Sanya , in Stare Jabłonki , Kristiansand and The Hague they came second. At the end of the year, the Asians finished ninth in Phuket . Xue Chen and Xi Zhang achieved top ten placements in all fifteen competitions that year.
2011
As in the previous year, the two Asians started the 2011 World Tour with a seventh place in the Brazilian capital, which they repeated at the third tournament of the year in Shanghai. The Chinese achieved further placements among the eight best teams in Beijing , where they finished fifth, as well as in Stare Jabłonki and The Hague. There they were fourth. The athletes from the Far East won medals at the World Championships in Rome and the Grand Slam in Moscow as well as at the Sanya Open and the Grand Slams in Gstaad and Klagenfurt. At these tournaments, Xue Chen and Zhang Xi lost the final. However, they were able to win both the Åland and the Thailand Open. As in the previous year, the two Chinese women achieved a placement among the top ten teams at all events in 2011. In December, Xue Chen and Zhang Xi won the Asian Championships in Haikou .
2012
At the first open tournament in Brasília in 2012 , Xue Chen and Zhang Xi celebrated their next success. They also won the Grand Slams in Shanghai and Moscow. In Berlin they were only defeated in the final. They also made it into the top ten at the other Grand Slams. They also qualified for the London Olympics . There they reached the second round of the group second in the preliminary round and came to the semi-finals with two more wins. They lost this game against Walsh / May-Treanor as well as the duel for bronze against Larissa / Juliana. They then successfully defended their title at the Asian Championship.
2013
In 2013, the Chinese won the first open tournament of the season in Fuzhou and finished fifth in the Grand Slam in Shanghai. At the World Championships in Stare Jabłonki they had to be content with third place in their preliminary group. However, they then did not give a sentence four times in a row and reached the final. With a 2-1 win against the German Borger / Büthe , they became the first Asians to become world champions and thus ended the series of successes for the Brazilian and US teams. After another victory at the Grand Slam in Gstaad , Xue Chen and Zhang Xi split. Xue Chen played in a row with the only sixteen year old Xia Xinyi and won the last two FIVB tournaments of the year in Phuket and Durban with her .
2014
At the very first tournament on the 2014 World Tour in Fuzhou, Xue Chen and Xia Xinyi finished third. At the Grand Slam in Shanghai , however, the Chinese failed after the pool phase in the first knockout round.
