FIVB Women's World Tour 2013

The women's FIVB World Tour 2013 consisted of 15 beach volleyball tournaments, ten of which were held as a grand slam and four as an open . The world championship took place from July 1st to 6th in Stare Jabłonki in Poland.

Fuzhou Open, China, April 24-28, 2013

Six German teams have registered for the first World Tour tournament of the year, of which Holtwick / Semmler , Borger / Büthe and Ludwig / Walkenhorst were seeded for the main field. Ludwig / Walkenhorst could not compete in the final training because of an injury to Walkenhorst. The duo Köhler / Schumacher could not prevail in the qualification. Borger / Büthe finished the tournament after a defeat against the Brazilian team Lili / Seixas in 17th place.
In the semifinals, Holtwick / Semmler lost to top seeded Xue / Zhang Xi , but were then successful in the game for third place against the Dutch Meppelink / van Gestel 2-0. Xue / Zhang Xi won the final 2-0 over Liliana / Baquerizo .

Shanghai Grand Slam, China, May 1st to May 5th, 2013

The three German teams Holtwick / Semmler , Borger / Büthe and Ludwig / Walkenhorst were set for the main field in Shanghai . The duo Köhler / Schumacher lost to the Dutch van der Vlist / Wesselink in the qualification and did not reach the main field. All three teams finished the pool phase as group winners and were thus directly in the second round. Both Holtwick / Semmler were subject to the Lili / Seixas team and Borger / Büthe to the Meppelink / van Gestel duo . Both took ninth place. The last German team lost to the Austrians D. Schwaiger / S. Schwaiger and came in fifth. The Schwaiger sisters met the Brazilians Talita / Lima in the final , but lost 2-0.

Corrientes Grand Slam, Argentina, May 22-26, 2013

The three German teams Holtwick / Semmler , Borger / Büthe and Köhler / Schumacher were seeded for the main field at the Grand Slam in Argentina . Bieneck / Großner also reached the main field via qualification . In the first round, Köhler / Schumacher were eliminated from the Swiss team Zumkehr / Heidrich . The remaining three German teams were eliminated in the third round and thus finished fifth. For Bieneck / Großner it was the best placement on the world tour so far.
In the final, the Dutch team Meppelink / van Gestel won 2-0 against the Brazilians Antonelli / Ágatha .

The Hague Grand Slam, Netherlands, June 11-16, 2013

Holtwick / Semmler , Ludwig / Walkenhorst and Borger / Büthe were seeded for the main draw in The Hague. Köhler / Schumacher reached the main field over the qualifying round. Borger / Büthe and Köhler / Schumacher finished the tournament in 17th place after being eliminated in the first round. Ludwig / Walkenhorst were defeated by the Dutch van der Vlist / Wesselink with 1: 2 and were eliminated with ninth place. With victories over the Brazilian duos Lili / Seixas and Antonelli / Ágatha , Holtwick / Semmler reached the semifinals. There they met a Brazilian team again, but were defeated against Maria Clara / Carol . In the game for third place they were 2-0 successful against van der Vlist / Wesselink. In the final, two Brazilian teams faced each other, which Talita / Lima won .

Rome Grand Slam, Italy, Jun 18-23, 2013

After Köhler / Schumacher were able to prevail in the qualification, four German teams again played in the main field: Holtwick / Semmler , Ludwig / Walkenhorst and Borger / Büthe . Köhler / Schumacher were defeated 0: 2 against the Italians Cicolari / Menegatti, who were placed on one, and finished in 17th place. Holtwick / Semmler also finished the tournament with 17th place and a defeat against the Brazilians Antonelli / Ágatha . Ludwig / Walkenhorst won their pool phase and only had to start again in the second round. There they were inferior to Talita / Lima . Borger / Büthe came with wins against Liliana / Baquerizo and Keizer / Van Iersel to the semi-finals, in which they were inferior to the tournament winners against Talita / Lima . They then lost the game for third place against Lili / Seixas with 0: 2. For Borger / Büthe it was the greatest success of their career on the World Tour so far.

The German volleyball association is represented at the World Cup with the four teams Holtwick / Semmler , Ludwig / Walkenhorst , Borger / Büthe and Bieneck / Großner . Borger / Büthe and Holtwick / Semmler won their preliminary round groups unbeaten, Ludwig / Walkenhorst and Bieneck / Großner moved into the knockout round of the last 32 teams as runners-up. In the first knockout round, Holtwick / Semmler lost against the Dutch Keizer / Van Iersel and Bieneck / Großner against the Italians Cicolari / Menegatti each with a 2-1 defeat. Ludwig / Walkenhorst reached the second round with a 2-1 win against the Brazilians Talita / Lima .

In the quarter-finals, Borger / Büthe prevailed 2-1 against the Americans Fendrick / Hochevar . In contrast, Ludwig / Walkenhorst were eliminated in the quarter-finals and finished fifth. They lost to the two seeded Chinese Xue / Zhang Xi with 0: 2. Borger / Büthe were also able to prevail in the semifinals and defeated the US team Ross / Pavlik 2-0 and were in the final against Xue / Zhang Xi, but were defeated 1: 2.

Gstaad Grand Slam , Switzerland, July 9-14, 2013

For the Grand Slam in Switzerland, Holtwick / Semmler , Ludwig / Walkenhorst and Bieneck / Großner were set. The Borger / Büthe team could not take part due to an injury to Britta Büthe . Köhler / Schumacher reached the main field via the qualifying round, but were eliminated in the pool phase. Bieneck / Großner failed in the first round against the Australian team Bawden / Clancy . In the third round, Holtwick / Semmler met Talita / Lima , to whom they lost 2-0. Ludwig / Walkenhorst were successful in the third round with 2-0 against the US team Fopma / Sweat and made it to the semi-finals, but lost to Lili / Seixas . In the game for third place they lost to Talita / Lima as in the pool phase with 0: 2. The Chinese Xue / Zhang Xi played the final against Lili / Seixas and won 2-0.

Long Beach Grand Slam, USA, July 22-27

In addition to the fifth placed from Gstaad Holtwick / Semmler , the German teams Bieneck / Großner and Köhler / Schumacher were seeded for the main field. Both Borger / Büthe (due to injury) and Ludwig / Walkenhorst canceled for Long Beach. Krebs / Weiland played for the first time on the World Tour 2013, but were eliminated in the qualification against Wolak / Pregowska from Poland . Bieneck / Großner failed in the first round due to team A. Ross / Kessy, who had placed first . Köhler / Schumacher lost to the Talita / Lima team in the second round . After losing to Maria Clara / Carol in the semi-finals, Holtwick / Semmler played for third place in the small final. They won the game against Day / Summer 2-0 and thus achieved third place.

Anapa Open, Russia, July 23-27, 2013

At the same time as the Grand Slam in Long Beach, the four German teams Tillmann / Aulenbrock , Behrens / Seyfferth , Laboreur / Sude and Mersmann / Schneider took part in the main field. Laboreur / Sude finished the tournament in 17th place after losing in the first round. In the second round, Tillmann / Aulenbrock won the German duel against Behrens / Seyfferth. In the third round they lost to Popova / Prokopjewa and took fifth place. Mersmann / Schneider only lost in the final against Ukolowa / Chomjakowa and finished second.

All German teams survived the pool phase. Laboreur / Tillmann finished the tournament in 17th place with a defeat in the first round. Bieneck / Großner and Borger / Sude lost their games in the second round and finished ninth. For Ludwig / Walkenhorst, the tournament ended in the third round and fifth place. Holtwick / Semmler played against Talita / Lima until the final , but lost 1: 2 there.

Moscow Grand Slam, Russia, August 21-25, 2013

In the main field in Moscow, the German teams Holtwick / Semmler , Ludwig / Walkenhorst and Borger / Büthe were seeded for the main field. Bieneck / Großner reached the main field through qualification. All German teams survived the pool phase. For Bieneck / Großner, however, came the end in the first round. In the second round, both Holtwick / Semmler failed due to the eventual winners of the tournament, and Borger / Büthe failed to the Swiss team Tanja Goricanec / Hüberli . Ludwig / Walkenhorst played through to the final, but lost 2-0 to the Brazilians Maria Clara / Carol .

São Paulo Grand Slam, Brazil, October 9-13, 2013

Three German teams were set for the main field: Holtwick / Semmler , Ludwig / Walkenhorst and Borger / Büthe . Bieneck / Großner , who finished the tournament in 17th place, got into the main field through qualification . In the round of 16, Ludwig / Walkenhorst beat Borger / Büthe 2-1. There was also a German-German encounter in the quarter-finals; Ludwig / Walkenhorst also won against Holtwick / Semmler here. After another win against Antonelli / Ágatha Ludwig / Walkenhorst were in the final, which they lost 1: 2 against Walsh / Ross . The Swiss team Forrer / Vergé-Dépré made it to the quarter-finals for the first time in a Grand Slam and defeated the number 1 seeded Talita / Lima .

Xiamen Grand Slam, China, October 23-27, 2013

The German pairs Laboreur / Sude and Mersmann / Schneider survived the qualification as did Hansel / Zass. However, the Austrians were just as unable to win a game in their pool as the Swiss Hüberli / Goricanec . In the main round 1, Laboreur / Sude lost to Mersmann / Schneider after a success in the group stage, who had two wins in the preliminary round. For the winners, however, the tournament was over in the round of 16 after the defeat against Talita / Lima. The semifinals reached Holtwick / Semmler, who met the conquerors of their compatriots, and Ludwig / Walkenhorst, who competed with Walsh / A. Ross had to grapple. Both German teams lost their encounters. Ludwig and Walkenhorst then won the bronze medal, while the three-time world and Olympic champion and her partner reached the top podium after triumphing over the Brazilians.

Phuket Open, Thailand, October 29th to November 3rd, 2013

As in Xiamen, Mersmann / Schneider defeated another German couple in Thailand after successfully qualifying and progressing in the pool in the first main round with Laboreur / Sude. They had to admit defeat to their compatriots Ludwig / Walkenhorst in the group stage, who after three successes in the preliminary round were eliminated in the second round, as was Mersmann / Schneider. After their victory in the semifinals over Maria Clara / Carol, the Chinese Xue Chen / Xia Xinyi also won the final against Emily Day and Summer Ross, who had previously defeated Antonelli / Ágatha. Maria Clara and Carol won the Brazilian duel for the bronze medal. Teams from Austria and Switzerland did not start in Phuket.

Four German duos competed in the 2013 Beach World Tour season in Durban, South Africa. However, these did not include any of the top German teams that had already ended this season or were already preparing for the new season.
In the preliminary round Jana Köhler and Anni Schumacher remained unbeaten, Mersmann / Schneider and Laboreur / Sude, like the Austrians Katharina Schützenhöfer / Lena Plesiutschnig, reached the first main round with two wins. Kim Behrens and Sandra Seyfferth achieved this with only one success. Mersmann / Schneider won their game as did Laboreur / Sude the German duel against Behrens / Seyfferth, who, like the team, were eliminated from the Alpine republic. The three remaining German couples made the last sixteen successful.
The Chinese Xue / XY Xia then defeated Köhler / Schumacher, in the semi-final round Mersmann / Schneider and in the final Laboureur / Sude and, after their success in Thailand, also secured the gold medal in South Africa . Mersmann / Schneider lost the game for third place against the Americans Pavlik / Kessy.
