Marta Menegatti (born August 16, 1990 in Rovigo ) is an Italian beach volleyball player .
Career
Menegatti completed her first international beach tournaments in 2009. With her partner Greta Cicolari , she became Italian champion in her first year. The two Italians finished fourth at the Open tournament in Sanya . With Deborah Allegretti Menegatti won the title at the U20 European Championships in Kos . In 2010 she reached ninth place in three tournaments with Cicolari. She won silver with Laura Giombini at the U23 European Championship in Kos and with Viktoria Orsi Toth at the U21 World Championship in Alanya .
In 2011 Menegatti / Cicolari established themselves in the top ten of the FIVB World Tour and reached the final at the Mysłowice Open. At the World Cup in Rome they managed to win the group in the preliminary round without losing a set before they had to admit defeat to the Chinese Xue Chen / Zhang Xi in the round of 16 . They then managed a single-digit placement at five Grand Slams in a row. In August they became European champions in Kristiansand . At the end of the world series , Marta Menegatti was named Most Improved Player of 2011.
At the 2012 Olympic Games in London they reached first place in the group stage and qualified for the round of 16. There they met the Spanish duo Liliana / Baquerizo , which they defeated 2-0. They then lost to May-Treanor / Walsh (USA) in the quarterfinals with 0: 2 and thus finished fifth. Menegatti / Cicolari also achieved fifth place at the 2013 World Cup in Stare Jabłonki .
Since July 2013 Menegatti started again with her former U21 partner Orsi Toth. Menegatti / Orsi Toth had several top ten placements on the World Tour in 2013 and 2014 . In 2015 , in Sochi, Russia , they achieved the first victory of an Italian women's beach volleyball team on the World Tour. In the final they beat the Swiss Isabelle Forrer / Anouk Vergé-Dépré in two sets with 21:19 and 21:16.
Menegatti / Orsi Toth were initially qualified for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio via the Olympic rankings . However, Orsi Toth tested positive for the androgenic steroid Clostebol on July 19, 2016 and was suspended from all competitions. Laura Giombini took over for Orsi Toth .
In 2017 Menegatti will play alongside the former American indoor volleyball player Rebecca Perry .
