Greta Cicolari (born August 23, 1982 in Osio Sotto ) is an Italian volleyball and beach volleyball player .

Career

Cicolari began her indoor career in 1997 at Excelsior Bergamo. In the 1999/2000 season she won the Champions League with Foppapedretti Bergamo . In the next two years she was active in third division clubs (B1) in Pistoia and Collecchio . From 2002 to 2006 she played in the second division (A2) in Carpi , Cavazzale , Padua and Castelfidardo . In 2006/07 she returned to the first division with Tena Volley Santeramo . She then moved to Familia Chieri , where she played until 2009.

In 2009 Cicolari came to beach volleyball. With her partner Marta Menegatti , she became Italian champion in her first year. The two Italians finished fourth at the Open tournament in Sanya . In 2010 they reached ninth place in three tournaments. In 2011 they established themselves in the top ten and reached the final at the Mysłowice Open. At the World Cup in Rome they managed to win the group in the preliminary round without losing a set before they had to admit defeat to the Chinese Xue Chen / Zhang Xi in the round of 16 . They then managed a single-digit placement at five Grand Slams in a row. In August they became European champions in Kristiansand .

At the 2012 Olympic Games in London they reached first place in the group stage and qualified for the round of 16. There they met the Spanish duo Liliana / Baquerizo , which they defeated 2-0. They then lost to May-Treanor / Walsh (USA) in the quarterfinals with 0: 2 and thus finished fifth. Menegatti / Cicolari also achieved fifth place at the 2013 World Cup in Stare Jabłonki .
