Liliana Fernández Steiner (born January 4, 1987 in Alicante ), called Lili , is a Spanish beach volleyball player . She became vice European champion in 2013 and took part in the Olympic Games in 2012 and 2016.

Career

Liliana took part in the U19 World Cup in Saint-Quay-Portrieux in 2005 with Nuria Moncunill and reached 19th place. She achieved the same result with Cristina Hopf at the U21 World Cup in Rio de Janeiro . In this competition she was ninth in 2006 in Mysłowice with Ilenia Arocha Ruiz . In 2007 she played a satellite tournament in San Sebastián with Alejandra Simon . Then she appeared at the U21 World Cup in Modena for the first time with Elsa Baquerizo Macmillan and came in fourth.

In 2008 Liliana / Baquerizo played for the first time on the FIVB World Tour . Her best result in the first year was a 13th place at the Dubai Open. In 2009 they achieved this result at the Masters in Gran Canaria and the Stare Jabłonki Open and finished 17th in the Grand Slam in Gstaad . At the U23 European Championships in Jantarny , they came in seventh. At the European Championships in Sochi, they were eliminated as the bottom of the group after the preliminary round. They finished fifth at the last tournament of the year in Phuket . On the World Tour 2010 they achieved ninth place in each of the successive Grand Slams in Klagenfurt and Stare Jabłonki. At the 2010 European Championships in Berlin they came as group winners in the round of 16, which they lost to the Austrians Hansel / Montagnolli . They also finished ninth at the The Hague Open and fifth again at the end of the year in Phuket.

They started the 2011 season with some double-digit results. They lost the final in a tiebreaker against the Austrian sisters Doris and Stefanie Schwaiger . After finishing ninth in Long Beach and Berlin, they finished third in Moscow on the World Tour . The 2014 season began for Liliana / Baquerizo with a fifth place in Shanghai and a lost final at the CEV Masters in Baden . At the European Championships in Quartu Sant'Elena they were second in the group and won the first two knockout games against Russian duos without losing a set before they were defeated by the Germans Bieneck / Großner in the quarter-finals and took fifth place. The other Grand Slams ended consistently in the top ten and in Stavanger they only lost in the final against the US duo Walsh / Ross .
