Bárbara Seixas de Freitas (born March 8, 1987 in Rio de Janeiro ) is a Brazilian beach volleyball player . After finishing third at the 2013 World Cup, she became world champion in 2015. In 2016 she won the Olympic silver medal.

Career

Bárbara got into sport through her family and started playing beach volleyball at the age of ten. In 2003 she reached the final of the Youth World Cup in Pattaya with Carolina Solberg Salgado . A year later, the duo repeated this success in Termoli . In 2005 Seixas won the title with her new partner Carolina Aragao in Saint-Quay-Portrieux . At the Junior World Championships in Rio de Janeiro , however, Bárbara / Aragao did not get past 25th place. The following year, however, they also won this competition in Mysłowice . They also played their first open tournament on the FIVB World Tour in Acapulco . In 2007 Bárbara was again Junior World Champion in Modena with Liliane Maestrini . With Claudinere Bento Sabino , she won the tournaments in Cyprus (Challenger) and Laredo (Satellite) in 2009 , before finishing 17th at the The Hague Open.

Then she decided on a visit to Turkey to play in the local league and formed a duo with Pinar Ozkan. In 2011, Bárbara played with her new partner Ágatha Bednarczuk on the national tour before returning to the World Tour in 2012 . Ágatha / Bárbara reached the top ten for the first time as fifth in the Grand Slam in Gstaad. In Stare Jabłonki and Åland respectively occupied ninth place before the end of October in Bang Saen came to third place. After winning the Brazilian championship, Ágatha / Bárbara separated to compete in new formations for the 2013 World Tour .

In 2013 Bárbara played with Liliane Maestrini. After two fifth places in Fuzhou and Shanghai and two ninth places, Bárbara / Lili finished third in the Grand Slam in Rome . At the World Cup in Stare Jabłonki they stayed in the preliminary round without losing a set. Then they reached the semifinals with three more wins and after losing to Xue Chen and Zhang Xi prevailed in the game for third place against the US duo Ross / Pavlik . At the final in Gstaad they were again defeated by the Chinese. The other four tournaments they finished in ninth place.

Since 2014 Bárbara played again with Ágatha. After a ninth place in Fuzhou and a third place in Shanghai, Ágatha / Bárbara won the Puerto Vallarta Open against Juliana and Antonelli . In the following Grand Slams there was a ninth and four fifth places. In Long Beach they had to admit defeat to the US duo Walsh / Ross in the final. With the exception of the Grand Slam in São Paulo, they always achieved top ten placements on the 2014 World Tour . In 2015 they won the Prague Open against Canadians Pavan / Bansley . In Stavanger and Saint Petersburg they played again against Juliana / Antonelli and prevailed in Russia. At the World Cup in the Netherlands , Ágatha / Bárbara won their preliminary group and two duels against Canadian duos. In the semifinals they defeated Juliana / Antonelli; They also won the Brazilian duel in the final against Taiana Lima and Fernanda Berti Alves and became world champions. After a fifth place in Gstaad, they had to admit defeat to the German duo Ludwig / Walkenhorst in the Yokohama final . They also came second in Rio de Janeiro after losing to Larissa / Talita . They took third place at the World Tour Final in Fort Lauderdale . At the end of the season they were named World Tour Champion 2015 .

At the start of the 2016 tour , they finished third in Maceió and fifth in Rio de Janeiro. After they had to be content with 17th place in Moscow, they reached the final of the Hamburg Major, which they lost to Ludwig / Walkenhorst. After that there were two ninth places. As world champions, Ágatha / Bárbara were qualified for the Olympic Games in Rio . After a defeat in the last group game, they came second in the group and qualified for the semi-finals against Walsh / Ross without losing any further set. They defeated the US defending champion and her partner 2-1, but then lost the final against the Germans Laura Ludwig and Kira Walkenhorst 0-2. Subsequently, Ágatha and Bárbara separated.

Bárbara Seixas has been playing with Fernanda Berti Alves since October 2016 .
