Maria Elisa Mendes Ticon Antonelli (born February 25, 1984 in Resende ) is a Brazilian beach volleyball player .

Career

With Nina Vieira, Maria Antonelli finished fifth at the U21 World Championships in Porto Santo in 2004 .

The Brazilian competed in her first FIVB World Tour tournament in 2006 with Vanilda Leão in her home country. In the following year Antonelli and Leão reached the first place twice in four FIVB Challenger & Satellite events, once each they came second and third. In 2008, the two South Americans reached the final of the World Tour for the first time, which they lost to Stephanie Pohl and Okka Rau in Marseille . In Kristiansand Maria Antonelli and Vanilda Leão won their first gold medal on the tour, their final opponents were Nila Ann Håkedal and Ingrid Tørlen from the host country.

In 2009 Talita Antunes became the new partner of Maria Antonelli. After a 13th place in Brasília, the two won their second joint FIVB tournament in Shanghai . In the most successful year of her career, Antonelli and her partner also won gold medals in Seoul , Gstaad and Kristiansand , and also reached the finals in Osaka , The Hague and Barcelona . At the World Championships in Stavanger the Brazilians secured the bronze medal after defeating Shelda Bede and Ana Paula Henkel , and bronze was also won at the tournaments in Stare Jabłonki and Åland .

2010

In the first FIVB tournament of the year in their home country , Antonelli and Talita only finished 17th. In the following seven competitions, the South Americans reached the semi-finals each time. In Shanghai and Rome they took bronze, after two fourth places in Seoul and Moscow , Norway made it into the final for the first time this year, which was lost to compatriots Larissa and Juliana . A fifth place followed in Gstaad . Talita Antunes and Maria Antonelli secured the first gold medal in 2010 in Marseille after defeating the Austrian sisters Doris and Stefanie Schwaiger . After a fifth place in Klagenfurt , two bronze medals in Stare Jabłonki and Åland and 17th place in the Kristiansand Open , the South Americans won the second tournament of the year in The Hague , defeating the Chinese Xue and Zhang Xi in the final. This was the successful end of the 2010 beach season for Antonelli and Talita, as they no longer took part in the two FIVB tournaments in autumn.

2011

After finishing fifth in Brasilia and winning the bronze medal at the Sanya Open , Antonelli and Talita took a further fifth place at the tournaments in Shanghai , Myslowice and Beijing as well as at the world championships in Rome . The two South Americans finished ninth in Stavanger, their worst result of the year. They then reached the semi-finals in Gstaad , finished fifth in Moscow and won their only gold medal in Québec . In the following tournaments, the two Brazilians finished fourth in Klagenfurt and the Åland Open and won bronze medals at the Mazuri Grand Slam and in The Hague .

2012

The first three tournaments of the year were the most successful for the South American duo. While the two Brazilians lost both the final in the capital of their home country and the final in Shanghai against the Chinese Xue / Zhang Xi, they won the gold medal at the Sanya Open against the current world champions. In the same season Maria Antonelli and Talita Antunes da Rocha were able to secure third place in Klagenfurt . They reached the semifinals in Moscow and finished fifth in Poland . They took ninth places each in Beijing, Rome and Berlin as well as at the Olympic Games in London . At the end of the season, Antonelli and Talita separated.

2013

In 2013 Maria Antonelli played alongside Ágatha Bednarczuk . The new duo reached the final of the Grand Slam in Corrientes and finished fifth in three other FIVB tournaments . At the World Championships in Stare Jabłonki they reached the main round as group winners, where they were eliminated against the Chinese Xue Chen / Zhang Xi .

2014/2015

In 2014 and 2015, Maria Antonelli started alongside Juliana Felisberta da Silva . Juliana / Antonelli almost without exception had top ten placements nationally and internationally. In 2014 they became World Tour Champions . They finished third at the 2015 World Cup in the Netherlands .

2016

Antonelli started in 2016 with Liliane Maestrini . In March Antonelli tested positive for hydrochlorothiazide in a doping control and was then suspended. She was acquitted two months later.

2017

In the first few months of the year Maria Antonelli reached the finals and the semi-finals at the FIVB 3-star tournament in Xiamen at the National Tour of Brazil in Niterói alongside Carolina Horta Máximo . After switching partners to Carol , the two Brazilians won the event in The Hague , before they had finished fifth in Moscow . They achieved the same placement at the 2017 World Cup in Vienna .

2018

Several fourth and fifth places at the events of the World Tour stood for the two South Americans. The highlights were second place in Espinho and fourth place at the tour final in Hamburg .

2019

Maria Antonelli / Carol achieved the best placements on the World Tour 2019 when they reached the finals at the 5-star tournaments in Gstaad and Vienna . Maria Antonelli has been playing with Elize Secomandi Maia since November .
