Ana Paula Rodrigues Connelly (today Ana Paula Rodrigues Henkel ) (born February 13, 1972 in Lavras , Minas Gerais) is a Brazilian beach volleyball player , former volleyball player and vice world champion as well as bronze medalist at the Summer Olympics .
Career hall
Ana Paula Rodrigues reached fourth place with the Brazilian national team at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona , and in 1996 there was a bronze medal in Atlanta . In 1994 Rodrigues Connelly won the silver medal with the Brazilians at the World Championships in São Paulo and the gold medal at the Volleyball World Grand Prix , a success she was able to repeat in 1996 and 1998 . In 1998 she was also named the best attacking player and the most efficient blocker.
Career Beach
Ana Paula Rodrigues Connelli started her beach career in 1999 alongside Jackie Silva . With her new partner Mônica Rodrigues , she won her first FIVB event in Cagliari , Italy in 2000 . With Tatiana Minello , Ana Paula achieved the best placement with the silver rank in the first tournament in Madrid in 2002 after her baby break.
The following year was the most successful of her beach career. At ten events, Connelly and Sandra Pires reached the final eight times, with four wins, the title of FIVB Tour Champion could no longer be taken from the two Brazilians after this record. There were only two events without a medal, but there was also the World Championship in their home country , which Ana Paula and Sandra Pires finished in fifth place, a placement they confirmed at the Olympic Games in Athens next year .
After the almost optimal yield with a success and a third place in only two tournaments in 2005 with Shaylyn Bede, Ana Paula Conelly started a new collaboration with Leila Barros in the same year . The two former indoor volleyball players were able to win the FIVB tournament in Montréal in 2006, after a second place at the end of the year it was only enough for several fourth places in 2007.
The older sister of short-term partner Shaylyn, double world champion Shelda Bede , became Ana Paula's fifth partner in 2008, with whom she won at least one FIVB title. So far, this performance has not been repeated in either the women or the men. In addition, Ana Paula Connelly won the Tour Champion title for the second time in her career this year, and with Shelda she was the FIVB Team of the year. These successes were made possible by three first, one second and two third places. After the Olympic Games in Beijing , where the two Brazilians finished fifth, they reached the semi-finals of the World Championships in Stavanger the following year , but then lost both games and thus finished fourth.
In 2010 Ana Paula played two AVP tournaments with her former partner Tatiana Minello , the two achieved a fifth and a ninth place.
Private
Ana Paula Rodrigues grew up in her native Lavras. In 1994 she married basketball player Jeffty Connelly, and in 2001 she had a son with volleyball coach Marcus Miranda, whom she named Gabriel. At the beginning of 2010, the Brazilian married again, this time the former American beach volleyball player Carl Henkel , who now works as a lawyer.
