FIVB Women's World Tour 2009

The women's FIVB World Tour 2009 consisted of 16 beach volleyball tournaments, three of which were Grand Slams and twelve were Open . There was also the Beach Volleyball World Championship in Stavanger in Norway .

Tournaments

Brasilia Open (April 20th to 25th)

For the first time since 2004 the tour started again in Brazil , this time in the capital . The Austrians Jirak / Rimser failed in the qualification . Their compatriots Hansel / Montagnolli were like the Swiss Kuhn / Zumkehr ninth, Doris and Stefanie Schwaiger from Austria achieved fifth place. The Germans Claudia Lehmann and Julia Sude , on the other hand, had to return home without a win. Sara Goller and Laura Ludwig reached the semi-finals without defeat, but had to admit defeat to the Americans Kessy / A. Ross . The Germans were then able to secure the bronze medal against Branagh / Youngs , who had previously lost to Larissa / Juliana . The Brazilians also won the final.

Shanghai Open (April 28th to May 2nd)

The German beach couple Großner / Fischer dropped out in the qualification. Lehmann / Sude achieved 17th place with a victory in the main field. Holtwick / Semmler and Goller / Ludwig survived the first two rounds without defeat. In the subsequent duel between the two teams, the latter got the upper hand. The Schwaiger sisters also have three wins in a row. The native Allentsteiger lost the next two encounters and took fifth place in the final ranking. Goller / Ludwig lost their next match against Antonelli / Talita , who after further successes were able to secure the gold medal over their Brazilian compatriots Maria Clara / Carol in the semi-finals and Wang / Zuo from China in the final. Sara Goller and Laura Ludwig finished fourth, Katrin Holtwick and Ilka Semmler secured seventh place.

Preliminary round in the pool system

Sara Goller and Laura Ludwig survived the pool round unbeaten. With two successes each, Holtwick / Semmler , Pohl / Rau as first group and Günther / Banck as second reached the main field. Lehmann / Sude were eliminated without a win, as was the Swiss Muriel Grässli with her partner Tanja Guerra Arias-Schmocker. Their twin sister Sarah did better and reached the next round with Isabelle Forrer as well as the duo Kuhn / Zumkehr. The Schwaiger sisters continued with three game wins, while the other Austrian team Hansel / Montagnolli did not succeed with one victory. The first ten beach pairs on the seed list all reached the round of the 32 best teams.

Main round

Of the Swiss, Austrian and German duos, only Goller / Ludwig, who were able to eliminate Banck / Günther, and Stephanie and Doris Schwaiger made it to the round of 16. The Germans then lost to Akers / Turner , while the sisters from the Alpine republic were only eliminated in the quarter-finals against Antonelli / Talita . The Brazilian team lost in the semifinals to their compatriots Larissa and Juliana. Kessy / A. Ross defeated Ana Paula / Shelda in the other semi-final and then secured the gold medal. Antonelli and Talita won bronze.
