Angela "Angie" Akers (born June 30, 1976 in Fort Wayne , Indiana as Angela Harris ) is an American beach volleyball coach and former beach volleyball and volleyball player .

Career hall / running

As Angela Harris, she played volleyball at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana . She then played for three months in Saignelégier in Switzerland. She then started long-distance running, went to San Francisco in 2000 and completed the 2001 Boston Marathon in 3 hours 24 minutes.

Career Beach

In 2002 Angie Akers went to Southern California and started her beach volleyball career at the side of Ashley Bowles and Jenny Pavley . In her first year on the AVP tour , she was voted Rookie of the Year . In 2004 she played with Rachel Wacholder , in 2005 with Nicole Branagh , in 2006/07 with Brooke Hanson and in 2008 with Holly McPeak . From 2009 to 2010 she played on the FIVB World Tour with Tyra Turner . Akers / Turner had 17 top ten finishes and finished fifth at the World Championships in Stavanger . In 2011 Akers played again with Nicole Branagh and in 2012 with Brittany Hochevar . In 2013 she played with Priscilla Piantadosi-Lima on the AVP tour. Her last tournament was the AVP Championships at Huntington Beach in October 2013.

Akers has been training the women's beach volleyball team in the Netherlands since 2015.

Private

Angela Harris grew up in Fort Wayne ( Indiana ) as the second oldest of four sisters. She is married to former professional football player Jeremy Akers and lives in Redondo Beach , California .
