FIVB World Tour 1994/95 women

The women’s FIVB World Tour 1994/95 consisted of five beach volleyball events. The host countries were Japan and Puerto Rico as well as Brazil with two tournaments and Chile .

Tournaments

Osaka (August 4-7, 1994)

For the first time a women’s tournament of the world series took place in Japan and also for the first time 18 teams were at the start, including the German couple Cordula Borger and Beate Paetow , who however did not get beyond the shared 17th place. There were also three Brazilian and Japanese duos as well as two US, Australian and Dutch couples. Mexico, Canada, New Zealand, Indonesia and the United Kingdom completed the field. Barbara Fontana and Lori Forsythe from the United States each received $ 5,500 in prize money as winners, with Brazilians Isabel Barroso Salgado and Roseli Timm in second place ahead of Karolin Kirby and Liz Masakayan. Sachiko Fujita and Yukiko Takahashi finished fourth as the best team from the host country. As in previous tournaments, the total prize money was US $ 50,000.

Carolina Beach (August 19-21, 1994)

At the first FIVB beach tournament in Puerto Rico, 19 couples started. Five of the six teams from the host country took the last places, only Moncha Cruz and Xiomara Molero were able to leave the Chilean and Dutch pair behind and achieved ninth place together with the Canadian, Italian and a Japanese duo. The US-Americans Gail Castro Kehl and Elaine Roque secured the gold medal in front of three Brazilian teams. Mônica / Samuel won the silver medal, Roseli and Isabel achieved the bronze rank, Adriana Behar and Magda Lima had to be content with fourth place. Things went much better for the German couple than in Osaka. Behind the two Australian couples Huygens Tholen / Pottharst and Cook / Spring, Borger / Paetow secured seventh place in front of the Japanese Ishizaka / Nakano

Santos (November 17-20, 1994)

There was a new record of participants at the Brazil Open. For the first time, beach couples from all five continents took part in an FIVB women's tournament. With five teams from the host country, three teams each from the United States and Mexico, two teams from Chile and one team each from Canada, Cuba, Peru and Bolivia, more than half of the participants came from North, Central and South America. Europe was represented by two Italian teams, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Czechoslovakia and for the third time this year by Cordula Borger and Beate Paetow. Three Australian and one New Zealand couples as well as two Japanese and South African duos completed the number of 32 participating couples. The Brazilian women Monica Rodrigues and Adriana Samuel secured the prize of 11,000 US dollars ahead of Karolyn Kirby / Liz Masakayan and Isabel / Roseli. Fourth place went to Barbra Fontana / Lori Forsythe, ahead of Renata de Castro and Karina Lins e Silva from the host country, Gail Castro Kehl / Deb Richardson went sixth. The Germans could not repeat their top ten placement from Puerto Rico, this time they came in eighteenth.

La Serena (February 9-12, 1995)

As in the previous year, the Chile Open took place on the second weekend in February in 1995. 30 teams competed for the $ 50,000 prize money. The first world and Olympic champions Sandra Pires and Jackie Silva won their first FIVB tournament in front of three US duos. Karolyn Kirby and Deb Richardson won the silver medal, while Barbra Fontana and Lori Forsythe won bronze in front of Lisa Arce and Christine Podraza. Together with the Australian Olympic champions of 2000 Natalie Cook and Kerri Pottharst, who competed together for the first time on the tour, the winners from Puerto Rico Castro and Roque achieved fifth place. Liane Fenwick and Anita Spring from Australia and the best Europeans Annamaria Solazzi and Consuelo Turetta from Italy came in seventh.

Rio de Janeiro (March 2-5, 1995)

23 couples took part in the 1995 Brazil Open. The prize money has been doubled compared to the previous tournaments to 100,000 US dollars. As in Chile, Sandra Pires and Jackie Silva secured the gold medal in front of their compatriots Monica Rodrigues and Adriana Samuel at the event in their home country. The bronze medal went to the Americans Karolyn Kirby and Deb Richardson ahead of the third Brazilian duo Adriana Behar and Magda Lima. Natalie Cook and Kerri Pottharst shared fifth place with Gail Castro Kehl and Elaine Roque. Isabel / Roseli and Fontana / Forsythe were seventh together. The Germans Brigitte Lohse and Judith Kern achieved tied ninth place on their first tour and received 3125 US dollars for it. The Brazilian winners Pires and Silva shared $ 22,000.
