FIVB World Tour 1992/93 women

The FIVB World Tour 1992/93 of women was the first beach volleyball series of Fédération Internationale de Volleyball for women's teams and consisted of two tournaments. The first FIVB Tour Champions were Karolin Kirby and Nancy Reno.

Tournaments

Almería (August 12-15, 1992)

The first FIVB women’s tournament ever took place in Almería. Ten beach couples competed at the Spain Open. The host country, the United States , Brazil and Australia provided two teams each . A team from Hungary and a German duo completed the field of participants.

The winners were the Americans Karolyn Kirby and Nancy Reno . The silver medal went to their compatriots Linda Chisholm and Angela Rock , the bronze medal went to the Brazilians Roseliane dos Santos and Roseli Timm ahead of Jackie Silva and Isabel Barroso Salgado . The two Australian couples Anita Spring / Jacqui Vukosa and Lisa Willcocks / Chris Wilson took fifth and sixth place ahead of the Hungarians Jurdit Danada / Gyongyi Polanyi and the Germans Alexandra Bruhn / Ariane Radfan . The two Spanish teams Monica Del Prado / Liliana Diaz and Virginia Cardona / Immaculada Gonzalez Casado only achieved ninth and tenth place . The total prize pool was $ 50,000, of which the winners each received $ 9,500.

Rio de Janeiro (February 9-14, 1993)

In the second tournament of the 1992/93 World Series, ten beach pairs were at the start. Four teams from the host country, two from the United States and a duo each from Australia, Japan and Cuba competed to win the Brazil Open. The only European team, Cordula Borger and Tina Klappenbach from Germany, took ninth place in the final statement. Karolin Kirby / Nancy Reno also won the second tournament in the series and relegated the Brazilians Mônica Rodrigues / Adriana Samuel and Jackie Silva / Karina Lins e Silva to second and third place. Almeria silver medalist Linda Chisholm and her new partner Liz Masakayan only came fourth, followed by Isabel Barroso Salgado and Roseli Timm, and Anita Spring and Jacqui Vukosa. As in Almería, the total prize money was US $ 50,000, with Kirby and Reno each receiving US $ 10,000.
