FIVB Men's World Tour 2009

The men's FIVB World Tour 2009 consisted of 14 beach volleyball tournaments, four of which were held as a Grand Slam and nine as an Open . There was also the World Championship in Stavanger in Norway .

Tournaments

Brasilia Open (April 21-26)

For the first time since 2004 the tour started again in Brazil, this time in the capital. While the Austrians Hupfer / Schroffenegger failed in the qualification, Dollinger / Kaczmarek were able to prevail and took seventeenth place with a victory in the main field, as did Gosch / Horst from Austria. Huth / Urbatzka were just as winless as the Swiss M. Lacia / Schnider . Their compatriots Sascha Heyer and Patrick Heuscher won twice and came in thirteenth. Christoph Dieckmann and Kay Matysik achieved three wins in the first laps. After two defeats against Rogers / Dalhausser and Ricardo / Emanuel , the two Germans achieved fifth place in the overall standings. The Americans lost their semi-finals against Pedro / Alison and then also the game for third place against Fábio Luiz / Márcio Araújo , who were defeated in the other semifinals. In the purely Brazilian final, the former world champions Ricardo and Emanuel prevailed.

Shanghai Open (April 29th to May 3rd)

In the qualification Erdmann / Windscheif prevailed in contrast to the Austrians Streitfellner / Traxler. In the first main round, all German teams except for the qualifiers won. However, while Dollinger / Kaczmarek and Huth / Urbatzka said goodbye to the tournament after two subsequent defeats and like the Austrians Hupfer / Schroffenegger were seventeenth, Jonathan Erdmann and Stefan Windscheif won their next three encounters and became together, as did the initially defeated Swiss Gabathuler / Wenger Ninth. Julius Brink and Jonas Reckermann did an even better job of defeating the Estonians Rivo Vesik and Kristjan Kais after their semi-final defeat against Harley / Alison , thus securing the bronze medal. The gold medal was given to the conquerors of the Germans after their victory over their Brazilian compatriots Pedro and Cunha .

Foro Italico Open in Rome (May 12th to 17th)

In the first German Country Quota of the year Erdmann / Windscheif defeated both Böckermann / Lüdike and Dollinger / Kaczmarek and then qualified for the main competition. Neither the Austrians, Streitfellner / Traxler, nor their compatriots Steinöker / Berger succeeded in this. In the first main round, all remaining German-speaking teams were victorious. Chr. Dieckmann / Matysik and Gabathuler / Wenger then each lost twice and came in seventeenth. Gosch / Horst took thirteenth place, while Heyer / Heuscher finished the tournament in ninth place. Erdmann / Windscheif and Klemperer / Koreng came in seventh . After their semi-final victory over Ricardo / Emanuel, Brink / Reckermann were also able to make the final against Cunha / Pedro victorious and thus fought for their first joint gold medal. Harley and Alison won the small final.

Mysłowice Open (May 26th to 31st)

While Weingart / Prawdzic were eliminated in the second and Dollinger / Kaczmarek in the third qualifying round, Erdmann / Windscheif and M. Laciga / Bellaguarda were able to qualify for the main competition. The Swiss lost their first two games there, as did their compatriots Gabathuler / Wenger and the Austrians Gartmayer / Nausch, while the third Swiss team, Heyer / Heuscher, said goodbye to the Germans in the next round. The thirteenth went to the Austrians Gosch / Horst. Klemperer / Koreng reached fifth place, while Brink / Reckermann fought their way into the semi-finals. They lost this against Harley / Alison as well as the subsequent game for third place against Gibb / Rosenthal . Their conquerors Fuerbringer / Jennings had to be content with silver, while the Brazilians were able to secure their second joint gold medal.

Preliminary round in the pool system

Brink / Reckermann, Klemperer / Koreng, Dollinger / Urbatzka and the Swiss Heyer / Heuscher made it into the round of the best 32 teams. The Austrians Gosch / Horst also reached the main round with two successes. You defeated u. a. Erdmann / matysics. A game win was not enough for them to advance in contrast to Doppler / Mellitzer from the Alpine republic. Their compatriots Huber / Gartmayer and the Confederates Gabathuler / Wenger and Schnider / Sutter left the competition without a win.

Main round

The Swiss Heyer / Heuscher, the Austrians Gosch / Horst and the Germans Brink / Reckermann and Klemperer / Koreng won their first games. The last sixteen, however, was the final destination for the teams from the Alpine republics, while the Germans were in the semi-finals after two more victories. Klemperer / Koreng were defeated by the Brazilians Harley / Alison, Brink / Reckermann defeated the reigning world champions, defeated the South Americans in the final and won the first gold medal at a beach volleyball world championship for a team that did not come from America. Third place went to Rogers / Dalhausser .

Grand Slam in Gstaad 7th to 12th July

In the German preliminary round, Uhmann / Windscheif defeated both Dollinger / Kaczmarek and Huth / Urbatzka, but failed, as did the Austrians Huber / Gartmayer and Hupfer / Schroffenegger. Doppler / Mellitzer and Gabathuler / Schnider were eliminated without a win after the pool round. Erdmann / Matysik lost in the first main round, while Klemperer / Koreng, Gosch / Horst and M. Laciga / Bellaguarda reached the second round as did the directly qualified Brink / Reckermann and Heyer / Heuscher. The defeated Klemperer / Koreng, who finished ninth with the remaining Austrians. Both Swiss teams did not survive the quarter-finals, while Brink / Reckermann secured the next gold medal after the World Cup by winning over Nummerdor / Schuil in the semifinals and Ricardo / Emanuel in the final. The Spanish Herrera / Gavira won the small final.

Grand Slam in Moscow (July 14th to 19th)

Hupfer / Schroffenegger, Doppler / Mellitzer and Dollinger / Kaczmarek failed in the qualification, while M. Laciga / Bellaguarda advanced to the semi-finals of the main competition after a successful qualification. This was also achieved by two German duos. While Uhmann / Windscheif and Gabathuler / Schnider lost three times in the pool round, Gosch / Horst were eliminated in the first and Heyer / Heuscher in the second main round. In the semifinals, Ricardo / Emanuel Klemperer / Koreng defeated, while the German world champions eliminated the Swiss and received their third gold medal in a row after the final victory over the Brazilians. The Swiss-German duel for the bronze medal was won by the Confederates.

World Series 13 Marseille (July 21-26)

After their victory over Erdmann / Matysik in the Country Quota, Böckermann / Urbatzka received a bye in the qualification, only to be eliminated in the first main round like the Austrian qualifiers Hupfer / Schroffenegger and their compatriots Huber / Seidl. Uhmann / Windscheif came one round further, while the Swiss M. Laciga / Bellaguarda and Heyer / Heuscher reached the round of 16. On lap four Klemperer / Koreng ended. Julius Brink and Jonas Reckermann then lost their semifinals against Rogers / Dalhausser, while the Dutch Numbersdor / Schuil failed to Herrera / Gavira. The Germans secured the bronze medal while the Americans defeated the Spaniards in the final.

Grand Slam in Klagenfurt (July 28th to August 2nd)

In the German country quota, Dollinger / Kaczmarek first defeated Erdmann / Matysik and then Huth / Urbatzka. In the qualification, the Germans also ended up as three Austrian couples. The Swiss Gabathuler / Schnider did better, but despite a victory they did not survive the pool round. The Austrians Hupfer / Schroffenegger and Doppler / Mellitzer ended the group stage without a win. One victory each was enough for M. Laciga / Bellaguarda and Uhmann / Windscheif to reach the first main round, which at the same time meant the end of the line for the Swiss and German teams. Klemperer / Koreng and Gosch / Horst won their games, but like Brink / Reckermann, who qualified directly by winning the pool, were eliminated in the second round. In the quarterfinals the last remaining Swiss Heyer / Heuscher lost against the Russians Kolodinsky / Barsouk, who in turn lost in the semifinals against Rogers / Dalhausser and in the game for third place against Numberdor / Schuil. The Americans won the final against the Brazilians Harley / Alison.

Mazuri Open in Stare Jabłonki (August 4th to 9th)

Stefan Windscheif and Marcus Popp prevailed against Dollinger / Kaczmarek and Huth / Urbatzka and then, like the Austrians Hupfer / Schroffenegger, reached the main field with two victories each in qualification. Neither the Swiss Gabathuler / Schnider nor their compatriots Weingart / Prawdzic succeeded in this. Erdmann / Matysik lost their first two games in the main competition, while Windscheif / Popp achieved one more victory. Klemperer / Koreng took thirteenth place in the final ranking. M. Laciga / Bellaguarda as the best Swiss team and the Austrians Hupfer / Schroffenegger finished ninth together. Gosch / Horst took seventh place, while Brink / Reckermann lost after their semi-final victory over Harley / Alison in the final against their Brazilian compatriots Benjamin / Pedro, who had previously defeated Herrera / Gaviera. The Spaniards won the game for third place.

Otera Open in Kristiansand (August 11th to 16th, 2010)

The Swiss Suttler / Gscheidle and Weingart / Prawdzic failed in the qualification, which their compatriots Gabathuler / Schnider, Doppler / Mellitzer and Hupfer / Schroffenegger from Austria as well as the two German duos Dollinger / Kaczmarek and Huth / Urbatzka survived. The latter finished 25th without a win in the main field, as did Hupfer / Schroffenegger. One game win gave Gosch / Horst 17th place. Doppler / Mellitzer, Dollinger / Kaczmarek and Erdmann / Matysik were eliminated in the following round and finished thirteenth together. Heyer / Heuscher, who had defeated their compatriots Gabathuler / Schnider after defeating Erdmann / Matysik, finished the tournament in seventh place. Barsouk and Kolodinsky reached the final by defeating Andy Cès / Kevin Cès and Aleksandrs Samoilovs / Ruslans Sorokins , who defeated Harley / Alison in the semifinals. The Russians won the final, the South Americans secured third place.

Åland Open (August 18-23)

Dollinger / Kaczmarek initially defeated Huth / Urbatzka in the German qualifying, but also missed qualifying for the main field, as did the Swiss Sutter / Gscheidle and Gabathuler / Schnider and the Austrians Doppler / Mellitzer. Gosch / Horst, who started as the only team from the Alpine republic in the main competition, lost in the third loser round to the only Swiss team M. Laciga / Bellaguarda, which finished seventh after another victory. Erdmann / Matysik didn't get that far, after one win and two defeats the tournament was over for them. The other two German teams met in the third main round with the worse end for the reigning world champions. Brink / Reckermann fought their way to the semi-finals despite this defeat and defeated Ricardo and Pedro there. Klemperer / Koreng also made it to the semifinals, but failed because of Nummerdor / Schuil, who then also won the final. In the game for the bronze medal, the Germans beat the Brazilians.

The Hague Open (August 25th to 30th)

German teams were not at the start. Gabathuler / Schnider and Weingart / Prawdzic from Switzerland as well as Nausch / Moser from Austria failed in the qualification. The two remaining Swiss teams won their first and lost their next game. While Heyer / Heuscher could not make the following match victorious, M. Laciga / Bellaguarda achieved seventh place with two more victories. The best Austrians came one lap further. Gosch / Horst finished fifth in the final classification, while the other two teams from the Alpine republic, Doppler / Mellitzer and Hupfer / Schroffenegger, remained without a win. As in Finland, Nummerdor / Schuil won the final. They defeated Herrera / Gavira, who had eliminated Harley / Alison in the semifinals. The Brazilians secured the bronze medal by defeating the Estonians Vesik / Kais, who had previously been defeated by the Dutch.

Gabathuler / Schnider and Urbatzka / Kaczmarek were able to prevail in the first main round after qualifying. The Swiss finished thirteenth after another win and two defeats. The Germans made it into the top ten and finished ninth. Dollinger / Windscheif, who fought for seventh place, did even better. The only Austrians Hupfer / Schroffenegger were unsuccessful. For the third time in a row Nummerdor / Schuil won the final, this time against Wu / Xu. The Chinese had defeated Prokopjew / Bogatov in their semifinals , the Dutch defeated Herrera / Gavira in the other semifinals, who then won the bronze medal.
