Ruslans Sorokins (born March 11, 1982 in Riga ) is a Latvian beach volleyball player .

Career

Sorokins finished ninth in the Junior World Championships in Catania in 2002 with Tomass Marnics . From 2003 he played various international tournaments with Andris Krūmiņš . In 2006 he had the first joint appearances with Aleksandrs Samoilovs . In the next few years he played with changing partners. In 2008 he first appeared again with Samoilovs in Kristiansand. At the 2009 World Cup in Stavanger , Samoilovs / Sorokins made it into the knockout round as second in the group and Rogers / Dalhausser took revenge in the round of 16. In the same year they reached the final of the Kristiansand Open. In 2010 they achieved various ninth places in grand slams and open tournaments. In the second round of the European Championship in Berlin they were able to defeat the current world champions Brink / Reckermann before they lost to the Austrians Doppler / Mellitzer and came in fifth. In 2011 they reached the first main round of the World Cup in Rome and failed in the tie-break against the Brazilians Ferramenta / Pedro . At the 2012 Olympic Games in London , Samoilovs / Sorokins took ninth place.

In 2013 Ruslans played Sorokins together with Toms Šmēdiņš . At the World Championships in Stare Jabłonki Sorokins / Šmēdiņš retired after the preliminary round despite a victory over the Dutch Spijkers / Varenhorst . In 2014 Edvarts Buivids was Sorokin's partner. In 2015 he played with Aleksandrs Solovejs and with Toms Benjavs . In 2016 Sorokins was on the field with Ingars Ivanovs and Rihards Finsters .
