Matthias Mellitzer (born September 9, 1980 in Lienz ) is a former Austrian volleyball and beach volleyball player .

Career

Between 2002 and 2004 Mellitzer played several international beach tournaments with changing partners. As an indoor volleyball player, he was active in the first division at Hypo Tirol Innsbruck . He won two national championships and the Austrian Cup four times. In 2008 the national player moved to the German Bundesliga club Moerser SC .

After the season he decided on a career as a beach volleyball player and formed a duo with Clemens Doppler . At the European Championships 2010 they only had to admit defeat to the Dutch defending champions Reinder Nummerdor and Richard Schuil in the final after three tight sets (tie-break 18:20) . At the 2011 World Cup they lost the round of 16 against the Danes Søderberg / Hoyer . On December 16, 2011, he announced the end of his career and has now worked as a media designer.
