Richard Schuil (born May 2, 1973 in Leeuwarden , Friesland , Netherlands ) is a Dutch volleyball and beach volleyball player .

Career

Indoor volleyball

Richard Schuil started his career in Leeuwarden . The real breakthrough came with Piet Zoomer's Apeldoorn . Schuil was then a top player at the Belgian club Noliko Maaseik . Later he switched to the Italian "Serie A1", where he played for Conad Ferrara , Lube Macerata , Prisma Volley Taranto , Pallavolo Padua , Teleunit Gioia del Colle and Daytona Modena .

Richard Schuil became Olympic champion in Atlanta with the Dutch national team in 1996 . In 1997 he became European champion. He then took part twice in the Olympic Games in indoor volleyball, in Sydney in 2000 and in Athens in 2004. He had a total of 380 appearances in the national team.

Richard Schuil played beach volleyball with Reinder Nummerdor on the FIVB World Tour and on the CEV European Tour from 2006 to 2013 . The numberdor / Schuil duo had their first major success in 2007 when they won the FIVB tournament in Manama (Bahrain). At the 2008 Beijing Olympics , they came in fifth. Between 2008 and 2010 they became European champions three times in a row. The two Western Europeans won their next FIVB title at the last event in 2011 in Agadir . At the 2012 Olympic Games in London , they finished fourth.

Private

Richard Schuil married the Dutch volleyball player Elke Wijnhoven on June 6, 2009 . Their daughter Lisa was born in March 2012.
