FIVB World Tour 2011 men

The men's FIVB World Tour 2011 consisted of 14 beach volleyball tournaments, six of which were held as a grand slam and seven as an open . In addition, the most important event of this year was the World Cup in Rome from June 13th to 19th.

Tournaments

The series began on April 19 in Brasília . Other Open took place in Shanghai , Prague , Québec , Åland , The Hague and Agadir . Beijing , Stavanger , Gstaad , Moscow , Stare Jabłonki and Klagenfurt hosted the Grand Slams. Originally a tournament was also supposed to take place in Kristiansand and the series in the Netherlands was supposed to end on August 28th. The Open in Norway was canceled. Instead, there was an additional men's event in Morocco from October 4th to 9th.

Brasilia Open (April 19-24)

Also this year the tour started in the capital of Brazil . In the German country quota , Markus Böckermann and Mischa Urbatzka defeated Alexander Walkenhorst and Thomas Kaczmarek, then survived the first two qualifying rounds before they had to retire against the Swedes Gunnarsson and Brinkborg. In the main draw, Stefan Windscheif and Sebastian Dollinger lost their first two games. Jonathan Erdmann and Kay Matysik won in the first round, but were then beaten by number five Brazilians Emanuel Rego and Alison Cerutti . After their victory over the Americans Gibb and Rosenthal as well as the defeat against the Dutch Reinder Nummerdor and Richard Schuil , the two Germans reached 13th place. Jonas Reckermann and Julius Brink were undefeated in their first two games. In the third round, however, the reigning world champions lost to the Chinese Xu and Wu, then they defeated Numberdor and Schuil as well as Benjamin and Bruno, before they failed to Emanuel / Alison and finished fifth. The South Americans then defeated Penggen Wu and Linyin Xu, while in the other semi-final Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers prevailed against Ricardo and Márcio Araújo and also won the first final of the season. Wu and Xu secured the bronze medal behind the silver medalists Emanuel / Alison.

Shanghai Open (May 2-7)

In the German Country Quota, Kaczmarek / Walkenhorst were defeated by Stefan Windscheif and Sebastian Dollinger, who were able to qualify for the field of the best 32 teams after a bye and two further successes. After defeating Fr. Gao and CH. Chen from the Middle Kingdom and two defeats placed the Central Europeans in 17th place in the overall ranking. The three German teams seeded for the main field fought their way to the top eight. There David Klemperer and Eric Koreng lost against the number five seeded Chinese Wu and Xu. Erdmann and Matysik, who had previously eliminated Emanuel and Alison, who were listed at number two, failed in the German-German duel against Julius Brink and Jonas Reckermann. They then defeated the Americans Fuerbringer and Lucena, but then lost for the second time in this tournament against their compatriots Gibb and Rosenthal. Prague Open (May 17th to 22nd)

In the German country quota, Böckermann / Urbatzka defeated their opponents Kaczmarek / Walkenhorst, while Dollinger / Windscheif prevailed against Bakumovski / Rohde. Both German couples survived the qualification. While for Markus Böckermann and Mischa Urbatzka, as well as for the Austrians Doppler / Mellitzer, the tournament was over after two defeats in the main competition, Sebastian Dollinger and Stefan Windscheif were able to win two more games and, like Jonathan Erdmann and Kay Matysik, took the overall ranking thirteenth place. The two top teams prevailed in the semi-finals. Emanuel and Alison, listed at number two, defeated the 29th Swiss Sascha Heyer and Sebastian Chevallier, who only contested their second joint tournament in the world series. Grand Slam in Beijing (June 7th to 12th)

At the first Grand Slam of the season in the Chinese capital, a German country quota was not necessary, as only four teams from Germany competed. Dollinger / Windscheif failed in the second qualifying round to the Americans Patterson / Keenan. Erdmann / Matysik, who were directly entitled to start in the main field, reached the first round after the group phase and came in seventeenth. In the round of 16, the Swiss Heyer / Chevallier lost to David Klemperer / Eric Koreng, who, like Patrick Heuscher and Jefferson Bellaguarda from the Alpine republic, were the first in their pool to qualify for the round of the best sixteen teams with two wins and one defeat. Preliminary round in the pool system

Klemperer / Koreng defeated their compatriots Erdmann / Matysik, but lost to the Austrians Doppler / Mellitzer and the Swiss Heyer / Chevallier and were eliminated as fourth. The Swiss defeated the duo from the other Alpine republic with 2-0 sets. Both had to admit defeat to Erdmann / Matysik, who as pool winners as well as the teams that were inferior to them reached the round of the best 32 teams. Brink and Reckermann also moved into the next round as first in the group. They defeated the Poles Kadziola / Szalankiewicz, the Russians Likholetov / Pastukhov and the Swiss Heuscher / Bellaguarda, who made it through a round with two successes. Grand Slam in Stavanger (June 28th to July 3rd)

After their victory over Böckermann / Urbatzka in the country quota, Dollinger / Windscheif failed in the first qualifying round. A bye in the German elimination did not help Erdmann / Matysik, they did not make it into the main field, just like the Austrians Doppler / Melitzer. However, this was achieved by their compatriots Müllner and Horst, who survived the subsequent pool phase in second place, but were eliminated in the following round. Grand Slam in Gstaad (July 5th to 10th)

In the German preliminary round, Böckermann / Urbatzka won against Windscheif / Dollinger, but failed in the first qualifying round. Erdmann / Matysik, second in their pool, won their main round game against the Swiss Heuscher / Bellaguarda, then lost their round of 16 as did Klemperer / Koreng, who had qualified as group winners directly for this round. The other Swiss teams were also eliminated early, Heyer / -Chevallier were defeated in their first game after the group stage, Laciga M.-Weingart won their first main round game, but then could not make their round of 16 victorious. Austrian teams were not at the start. After three pool wins, Brink / Reckermann also won the following pairings against Ferramenta / Pedro from Brazil and the Dutch Numbersdor / Schuil. The Germans lost their semifinals against Rogers / Dalhausser, in the other semifinals Emanuel and Alison defeated the Poles Fijalek and Prudel, who had thrown the winners from Stavanger out of the competition in the quarterfinals. Grand Slam in Moscow (July 12th to 17th)

After their victory over Böckermann / Urbatzka in the country quota, Dollinger and Windscheif then survived the qualification, the pool round and the first main round. Erdmann / Matysik and Klemperer / Koren defeated their opponents in round one after successfully surviving the group phase. Julius Brink and Jonas Reckermann were the first in their pool to reach the second main round. Here came the end for all German teams. The Swiss Heuscher / Bellaguarda did better, after their victory over Klemperer / Koreng they also beat the Brazilians Thiago / Harley and defeated Rogers / Dalhausser in the semifinals. In the other semifinal round, Emanuel / Alison, who were number one, defeated the Chinese Xu and Wu and then also won the gold medal match against the Swiss. Third place went to the Americans.

Québec Open (July 18-24)

In Canada there were only two German teams, as well as an Austrian and a Swiss team. Böckermann / Urbatzka lost their first two games. Mazuri Grand Slam in Stare Jabłonki (July 26th to 31st)

For the fourth time in the last five events, Dollinger / Windscheif faced Böckermann / Urbatzka in the German qualification, who after their victory also successfully passed the qualification and, like Klemperer / Koreng and Brink / Reckermann, were first in their pool. Grand Slam in Klagenfurt (2nd to 7th August)

In the German Country Quota this time Windscheif / Dollinger defeated their opponents Böckermann / Urbatzka again, but failed in the second qualifying round. The Austrians Müllner / Horst and the Swiss M. Laciga / Weingart and Gabathuler / Schnider did not come beyond the pool phase. In the first round after that, Klemperer / Koreng were defeated by the Swiss Heyer / Chevallier and Erdmann / Matysik by the Norwegians Skarlund-Spinnangr. Åland Open (August 16-21)

The Austrian pairs Doppler / Mellitzer and Müllner / Horst lost their first two games of the main event after having passed the qualification and finished in 25th place. The Swiss teams M. Laciga / Weingart and Heyer / Chevallier as well as the German Dollinger / Windscheif, who finished seventeenth after winning one and losing two games, did a little better. The Hague Open (23-28 August)

As in the previous year, the German teams were absent due to the national championships taking place at the same time . The two strongest duos so far, Emanuel / Alison and Rogers / Dalhausser, were also absent from the Netherlands. Morocco Open (October 4th to 9th)

At the last event of the year, the previously established overall winners Emanuel / Alison were missing, as was the second Rogers / Dalhausser. The Austrians Hubert and Seidl failed in the third qualifying round, while the Swiss M.-Laciga / Weingart came into the main field. There they finished 17th with one win and two defeats, as did their compatriots Heyer / Chevallier, who were defeated in the duel between the Swiss Heuscher / Bellaguarda. They also won the next game and finished ninth after losing to Jennings / Wong. The three German participating couples were set for the main competition. Dollinger / Windscheif won a game, but lost against the eventual winners and the bronze medal winners and finished in 17th place. Erdmann / Matysik finished seventh with four wins and two defeats. Julius Brink and Jonas Reckermann won their first four games. The two Germans also made the subsequent semi-final against Fuerbringer / Lucena from the United States successful.
