Philip Peter Dalhausser (born January 26, 1980 in Baden , Switzerland ) is an American beach volleyball player , Olympic champion and world champion.

Athletic career

In 2003 Phil Dalhausser started his beach volleyball career in Fort Lauderdale with Nick Lucena , but the two failed in qualifying. In the next year they reached the semifinals of the AVP tour for the first time and defeated u. a. Karch Kiraly with his partner Mike Lambert. In 2006 Dalhausser / Lucena achieved their first victory in the AVP, in the same year the native of Baden started the FIVB tour with Todd Rogers . In 2006 the two succeeded in winning the FIVB tournament in Klagenfurt, which they followed in 2007 with the world championship title . For the first time in the men's race, the winner was not from South America. In addition, Dalhausser / Rogers reached the semi-finals in all seventeen AVP tournaments they contested, ten times they were at the top of the podium. In 2008 the two Americans were able to improve this performance. In addition to their Olympic gold medal in Beijing in 2008 , they won eleven AVP events and four FIVB events. 2009 was not quite as successful for Rogers / Dalhausser, after a defeat in the semifinals against the Germans Brink / Reckermann , the Americans were able to secure the bronze medal at the World Championships in Stavanger , there were also eight AVP and two FIVB successes.

2010

The two professionals from North America built on their successes of previous years in the first tournaments of the year. They won the Brasilia Open , the Foro Italico Beach Volley Grand Slam and the Mysłowice Open (after winning the semifinals over their successors as world champions Brink / Reckermann), only in Shanghai they only managed to finish 4th. At the Moscow Open , Rogers / Dalhausser lost the final against the Chinese Wu / Xu, but in the Czech Republic they were number one again after beating the Brazilians Emanuel / Alison . After a semi-final defeat in Stavanger, as they did at the World Cup last year, again against a German team, the Americans were able to retaliate in the final of the next tournament in Switzerland with a 2-0 win over their conquerors from Norway and after their success over Klemperer / Koreng have already received the fifth gold medal of the year. The Olympic champions achieved their sixth tournament victory in Klagenfurt after defeating Emanuel Rego and Alison Cerutti in the semifinals and their American compatriots Matt Fuerbringer and Nick Lucena in the final. Dalhausser / Rogers were overall winners of the tour and also voted Team of the Year. Phil Dalhausser was also named Best Blocker, Best Hitter, Best Offensive Player, Best Setter and Most Outstanding.

2011

2011 in Prague

After winning tournaments at the World Tour in Brasilia and Shanghai , Dalhausser / Rogers came in second in Prague . At the World Championships , the Americans failed to Julius Brink and Jonas Reckermann in the second round. This was the only event of the year in which the athletes from the United States participated and did not finish in the top eight teams. At the following tournament in Norway , Dalhausser and Rogers took fifth place as well as at the event in Beijing , which took place right before the world championships. These three events and the last two tournaments of the season, in which the Olympic champions no longer participated, remained the only ones in 2011 without a medal. The reigning Tour Champions reached the final in Gstaad , finished third in Moscow and won the tournaments in Canada and Poland . They finished bronze at the Grand Slam in Klagenfurt before finishing their season as silver medalists at the Åland Open and second in the overall ranking of the year. Phil Dalhausser was then named the best player on the 2011 tour.

2012

After two wins at the Brasila Open and the Grand Slam in Shanghai , Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers only finished ninth at the 2012 Olympic Games in London after a 2-0 defeat in the round of 16 against the Italians Nicolai / Lupo . In the World Tour of the same year, the two Americans took bronze twice at the Prague Open and at the last tournament of the season in Stare Jablonki . They also reached the semi-finals at the events in Gstaad and Klagenfurt .

2013-2016

Phil Dalhausser played with Sean Rosenthal from 2013 and won the Fuzhou Open and the Grand Slam in Rome . At the World Championships in Stare Jabłonki , Dalhausser / Rosenthal finished ninth.

After Dalhausser missed the World Cup in 2015 because of an injury, Rosenthal split from him. As a result, Nick Lucena has been Dalhausser's partner again since August 2015. Lucena / Dalhausser took second place at the Grand Slam in Long Beach , won the Xiamen Open and finished second at the World Tour Final in Fort Lauderdale. In the 2015/16 season there were almost without exception top ten placements for the Americans with several tournament victories, including a. at the major in Hamburg.

At the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro 2016 they were eliminated in the quarterfinals against the later gold medalists Alison / Bruno and finished fifth.
