David Klemperer (born June 22, 1980 in Kiel , Germany ) is a former German beach volleyball player .

Career

Klemperer began playing indoor volleyball in 1991 and switched to beach volleyball in 1995. With Niklas Rademacher , he became vice-European champion of the U19 in 1999. The following year he won the U23 European Championship in Italy with Jonas Reckermann . Then he played again with Rademacher. The duo came third in the German championship in 2001 and 2004 . At the 2003 World Cup in Rio de Janeiro , they finished ninth. In 2004 they also reached fourth place at the European Championships and second place at the World Tour tournament in Stavanger . In 2005, Eric Koreng became his partner for the first time , with whom he did not get past 25th place at the World Cup in Berlin . With Kjell Schneider , Klemperer was third in the 2006 German championship and fifth in the European championship. When his partner had to retire for health reasons, the Klemperer / Koreng duo got together again and were immediately successful. They finished third in the German championship as well as in the European Championships in Valencia and the World Championships in Gstaad finished ninth. At the World Tour tournaments in Berlin and Klagenfurt they came second.

Koreng received special attention at the final in Berlin, where he suffered a circulatory collapse in the third set due to the heat and was carried off the pitch by his Brazilian opponent Fabio Luiz. In 2008 the duo trained by Gerald Maronde reached third place at the World Tour tournament in Paris . Klemperer / Koreng were the second German team to qualify for the Olympic Games in Beijing , where they reached the quarter-finals. They then became German champions for the first time with a 2-1 win against defending champions Julius Brink and Christoph Dieckmann . Other highlights in Klemperer / Koreng's career were a win at the Grand Slam in Stavanger in 2010 and a second place at the Grand Slam in Gstaad . In 2012 Klemperer ended his career as a beach volleyball player with a fifth place in Berlin .

Professional

Klemperer studied business administration at Christian-Albrechts-Universität in Kiel and now works as a business graduate in Hamburg. He also works on the Techniker Beach Tour as an expert, reporter and commentator. Since 2020 Klemperer has been managing director of "Deutsche Volleyball Sport GmbH".
