Beach volleyball world championship 2005

The Beach Volleyball World Championship 2005 took place from June 21st to 26th in Berlin ( Germany ). The competitions for women and men were held in parallel. It was the sixth official World Cup. In the women's category, the Americans Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor defended their title with a final victory against the Brazilian duo Larissa / Juliana . In the men's category, the Brazilians Márcio Araújo and Fábio Luiz Magalhães became new world champions thanks to a success in the final against the Swiss Sascha Heyer and Paul Laciga , while Julius Brink and Kjell Schneider won the bronze medal in a German duel. The German Volleyball Association was present as the host with a total of thirteen, Austria with six and Switzerland with five teams.

mode

48 teams each competed for women and men. The competition was based on the double knock-out principle . The tournament took place on the Schlossplatz in Berlin-Mitte . Two wildcards were given for women and men ; the German duos Goller / Ludwig, Brink-Abeler / Jurich and Krug / Urbatzka as well as the Portuguese Maia / Brenha benefited from this. The tournament winners received $ 62,000 in prize money per team and 1,000 points for the world rankings.
