Hella Jurich (born December 28, 1980 in Tokyo ) is a former German beach volleyball player . With Rieke Brink-Abeler as a partner, she was German champion in 2004.
Career
Hella Jurich began playing volleyball indoors in 1990 . In May 2000 she played her first beach volleyball tournament. In 2003 she founded a duo with Rieke Brink-Abeler, which did not show any great success in the first year. In 2004, the two women from Münster competed as outsiders at the German championship in Timmendorfer Strand and defeated the Olympic participants in Pohl / Rau in the final . In the following year they finished 13th in the world championship in Berlin and took part in the World Tour for the first time. In 2006 they made it to fifth place in some tournaments in the world series and reached the final of the German championship, which they lost to Goller / Ludwig . At the 2007 World Cup in Gstaad they stayed in the preliminary round as well as in the German duel of the first main round against Banck / Lahme without losing a set, but were eliminated against the next German opponents Claasen / Röder . After another German runner-up in 2008, Jurich separated from her long-time partner Rieke Brink-Abeler and played with Antje Röder in 2009 and 2011 and with Melanie Gernert in 2010 .
Hella Jurich, together with Rieke Brink-Abeler from the Sports Association of the City of Münster, was named Team of the Year at the Ball des Sports in 2006 and 2008.
Private
Jurich lives in Berlin and completed a distance learning course in business administration . Today she is the managing director of the IfT Institute for Talent Development. Jurich was married to beach volleyball player Tilo Backhaus from 2014 to 2018 ; the two have a daughter.
