Rieke Brink-Abeler (born December 11, 1979 in Emsdetten , today Rieke Herzog ) is a former German beach volleyball player . With Hella Jurich as a partner, she was German champion in 2004 .

Career

Rieke Brink-Abeler began playing indoor volleyball in 1990 , where she won the DVV Cup in 2000 with the USC Münster . In 2000 she also played her first beach volleyball tournament. In 2003 she founded a duo with Hella Jurich , which did not show any great success in the first year. In 2004, the two women from Münster competed as outsiders at the German Championship in Timmendorfer Strand and defeated the Olympic participants Stephanie Pohl / Okka Rau in the final . In 2005 they were thirteenth in the World Championship in Berlin and took part in the World Tour for the first time. In 2006 they made it to fifth place in some tournaments in the world series and reached the final of the German championship, which they lost to Sara Goller / Laura Ludwig . At the 2007 World Cup in Gstaad they stayed in the preliminary round as well as in the German duel in the first main round against Banck / Lahme without losing a set, but were eliminated in the next national duel against Claasen / Röder . After another German runner-up in 2008, Brink-Abeler separated from her long-term partner Hella Jurich and played with Karla Borger in 2009 . From 2010 Angelina Grün was her partner. At the German championships in 2010 on Timmendorfer Strand they came fourth. After a protracted injury to Angelina Grün, the duo separated in August 2011. Brink-Abeler then played with Melanie Gernert at the European Championships in Kristiansand , where they lost to the Belgians Gielen / Mouha in the round of 16 .

Rieke Brink-Abeler and Hella Jurich from the Sports Association of the City of Münster were named Team of the Year at the Ball des Sports in 2006 and 2008.

Private

Rieke Herzog is married today and has a daughter. She is a doctor and lives in Münster .
