Helke Claasen (born March 16, 1977 in Schwedt / Oder , GDR ) is a German beach volleyball player . Claasen was also active on Kiel TV as an indoor volleyball player in the 2nd Bundesliga.

Career

Claasen started playing volleyball indoors in 1992 . In 1997 she played her first beach volleyball tournament. In 2003 she took part in the FIVB World Tour with Judith Deister , finished ninth in the German championship in Timmendorfer Strand and took the same rank in the world championship in Rio de Janeiro . A year later she competed twice with Martina Stoof in Timmendorfer Strand; at the European championship it was only enough for 25th place, while she was third in the national championship. Since 2005 Claasen has formed a duo with her former competitor Antje Röder . In the first year they took part in the FIVB World Tour and the World Championships in Berlin and finished seventh in the national championship. A year later, they improved by two places and gained further international experience. 2007 was the national duo's most successful year. At the World Championships in Gstaad and at the European Championships in Valencia they came in fifth and in the final of the German championship they were defeated by Goller / Ludwig with 18:20 in the third set. After third place in the German championship in 2008, the duo Claasen / Röder parted ways. In 2009 Helke Claasen played with Lisa Mittenzwei .

Since then she has been the state trainer for beach volleyball in Hamburg. Claasen is also on the coaching staff of Olympic champions Laura Ludwig and Kira Walkenhorst and was named “Hamburg's Trainer of the Year” in 2016. From November 9, 2017, the DVV announced that from the beginning of 2018 she would also work as a national trainer for the beach volleyball players at the federal base in Hamburg.
