Tilo Backhaus (born February 14, 1986 in Berlin ) is a German volleyball and beach volleyball player and today's coach.
Athletic career
Tilo Backhaus started playing indoor volleyball in 1994. Since 2002 he has played nationally and occasionally also internationally beach volleyball with over twenty different partners. His standard partners were Timo Wilhelm in 2003 , Stefan Uhmann in 2004 , Hendrik Matthießen and Peer-Ole Mielenz in 2005 , Tom Götz in 2006/2007 , Manuel Rieke in 2008 , Stefan Schneider in 2009 , Alexander Walkenhorst in 2010 and Dirk Westphal in 2011/2012 . Backhaus became German U19 champions in 2004 with Stefan Uhmann and had some top placements at junior European and world championships. From 2007 to 2013 he took part in the German championships in Timmendorf without interruption . The best result here in 2008 was fifth place with Manuel Rieke.
In 2013, Jan Romund from Münster was his partner. The team was trained by Backhaus' partner Hella Jurich , who used to be active in the hall and at the beach.
Tilo Backhaus was also active as an indoor volleyball player. With the Berlin TSC he was several times German youth champion. He later played for Fortuna Kyritz , TV Rottenburg and TSGL Schöneiche in the second division .
In 2013 Backhaus also worked as a beach volleyball trainer for the Victoria Bieneck / Julia Großner team. Since 2014 he has been fully focused on the coaching job and initially supervised the German national team Katrin Holtwick / Ilka Semmler . In 2017 he was national trainer for the beach volleyball players at the federal base in Hamburg.
Private
Backhaus was married to beach volleyball player Hella Jurich from 2014 to 2018 ; the two have a daughter.
