Julia Großner (born May 4, 1988 in Weimar ) is a German beach volleyball player . She became European champion in 2017 and took part in the German championships in Timmendorfer Strand eleven times with various partners .

Career

Julia Großner started playing indoor volleyball in Erfurt in 1997 and has been playing in the sand since 2003. In 2004 she won the German C and B youth championship with Jenny Heinemann . In 2006 she played with Katharina Schillerwein and in 2007 with Liane Lehmann at national tournaments. She started nationally and internationally with Frederike Fischer from 2008 to 2010. In 2009 Julia Großner became U23 European champion alongside Britta Büthe in Jantarny, Russia .

From 2011 to 2016 Großner played with Victoria Bieneck . In the first tournament in 2013, the duo Bieneck / Großner took fourth place at the CEV Satellite tournament in Antalya (Turkey). At the World Championships in Stare Jabłonki , Bieneck / Großner reached the main round, where they were eliminated against the Italians Cicolari / Menegatti . At the German championship in 2013, Bieneck / Großner took fifth place. In 2014, Bieneck / Großner achieved their first victory on the FIVB World Tour at the Anapa Open in Russia . They finished fourth at the European and German championships in 2014. In 2015 and 2016 Bieneck / Großner got numerous top ten placements on the FIVB World Tour as well as fifth place at the German championships.

At the FIVB opening tournament in Fort Lauderdale in 2017 , Großner played together with Olympic champion Kira Walkenhorst , whose regular partner Laura Ludwig was recovering from shoulder surgery. Großner / Walkenhorst won two of their three pool play games and reached the knockout round, in which they lost 2-0 to the Dutch Meppelink / Van Gestel and ended the tournament in 17th place. Then Großner formed a new German national team with Nadja Glenzke , which trained at the federal base in Hamburg. At the FIVB 5-star tournament in Gstaad, Glenzke / Großner finished ninth. At the World Championships in Vienna they reached the lucky loser round in third place, in which they qualified for the main round against the Paraguayans Filippo / Erika . Here they eliminated their compatriots Laboreur / Sude . At the EM in Jūrmala they reached the knockout phase as third in the group and then reached the semifinals with three wins in German duels, including against the defending champions Ludwig / Walkenhorst . With another victory against the Poles Kołosińska / Gruszczyńska they reached the final against the Czech duo Kolocová / Kvapilová and became European champions. During the tournament it was announced that Großner would be removed from the central funding of the DVV . At the German championship 2017 , Glenzke / Großner finished seventh.

In April 2018, Großner ended her beach volleyball career.
