The 2nd men's volleyball Bundesliga is the second highest division in German men's volleyball . This competition is played in two leagues (North and South).

In the 2nd Bundesliga, teams from the Federal Republic of Germany play in the two seasons, north and south, in a round with a return game. The first-placed team (champions) of these relays will be promoted to the 1st Bundesliga , the two last-placed teams will be relegated to the third leagues. With increased relegation from the 1st Bundesliga to the same season of the 2nd Bundesliga, there may be an additional relegation.

The champions of the four third leagues move up to the second federal leagues. If there are more places available in the 2nd Bundesliga or the champions of the third division do not want to be promoted, the second and third placed in the third division can also be promoted.
