The men's third division (volleyball) has been the third highest division in German men's volleyball since the 2012/13 season . This competition is played in four leagues.

In the third division, teams from the Federal Republic of Germany play in the four seasons north, west, south and east in a round with a return game. The first-placed team (champions) of these relays will be promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga , the last two teams will be relegated to the regional leagues . With increased relegation from the 2nd Bundesliga to the same season of the third leagues, there may be an additional relegation.

The champions of the eight regional leagues move up to the third leagues. If there are more places available in the third league or the regional league champion declines promotion, the second and third placed in the regional league can also advance.
