The 1996/97 season of the men's 2nd volleyball division was the twenty-third edition of this competition.

2nd Bundesliga North

SSC Dodesheide Osnabrück became champions and promoted to the 1st Bundesliga . The TVK Wattenscheid, the TSV Lütjenburg and the TuS Berne Hamburg had to get down.
