USC casting
The Independent Sports Club Gießen is a Gießen volleyball club that was founded in 1972. The club emerged from the volleyball section of the YMCA Giessen.
history
USC Giessen celebrated its greatest successes in the volleyball Bundesliga in the first half of the 1980s, when they won the German men's championship in 1982, 1983 and 1984 , as well as the DVV cup (and thus the double ) in 1984 and together dominated the volleyball scene in Germany with the teams from Hamburg , Paderborn and Bonn . After the departure of Burkhard Sude in 1984, who left the club for reasons of study, the sporting decline began.
The resuscitation and sporting reconstruction of the club began in 2013/14 when the first women's team and a year later the second men's team, which emerged from the AHS Gießen (general university sports), joined the club.
Current
Today the USC Gießen is again an institution in Hessian volleyball with around 200 members. Nine teams take part in the official game operation. There are four men and four women teams, as well as a mixed team, which competes in the BSF Hessenliga.
The current goal is to establish youth work in the club and to integrate a youth team into the official game operations.
