The Free Gymnastics Association Munich Schwabing is the oldest volleyball club in Munich , which also includes departments in the sports of badminton , fistball , gymnastics , beach volleyball and recreational football.

history

The volleyball club was founded on November 20, 1897 in the heart of Munich- Schwabing in the restaurant 7 Schwaben in Occamstrasse as the general gymnastics club Schwabing, mostly by workers from the Krauss-Maffei company. In 1906 the ATV Schwabing joined the Free Gymnastics Association in Munich as Division II . The department later became the independent association Freie Turnerschaft München-Schwabing , which was banned in 1933. The majority of the members of the club then joined the German Sports Club in Munich . As early as 1945, the FTM was re-established as an independent association which, like the FT Gern, is a member of the FT München eV association .

After the FTM was able to take over a sports site on Osterwaldstrasse in 1946 with the support of the Bayerische Gemeindebank , the club lost this site again in 1948 when it was confiscated by the American hunting party.

Since 1950 the club has used the club house in the school sports grounds of the elementary school on Simmernstrasse, which was officially inaugurated together with the sports grounds at the beginning of April 1951 with a field handball tournament taking place at the same time .

beach volleyball

The FTM facility is located in the heart of Schwabing , Rheinstrasse 19 (near the U3 Bonner Platz subway or the U6 Münchener Freiheit). It comprises two fields. It is only accessible to club members, fixed training times are allocated to the individual teams. A beach token must also be purchased. The sport has been a department within the FTM since 2016.

Fistball

The fistball department of the FTM Schwabing is the oldest existing department in this sport in Munich. In summer (on the FTM system) and in winter (from Feb 2019 in the gym in the Nordhaide school center , Schleißheimer Str. 510 near the Dülferstraße underground station ), training takes place once a week. Most recently, the department took part as an independent team in the hall in the district league Munich / Upper Bavaria West A in 2009/10. After the game operations department took part in the regional league as part of SG Schwabing / Siemens between 2010 and 2014, both field and indoor games, the department took part in the regional league again under the name FTM Schwabing until the 2016 field season. From the indoor round 2016/17, the non-registration department for the district league decided to continue regular training. For the 2018 summer round, the department decided to take part in the Upper Bavaria District League, where the runner-up was achieved.

Handball

In 1928 a handball department was founded within the FTM Schwabing . From 1953 to 1957, the FTM team took part in field handball in the Bavarian State League, which was second class at the time.

Table tennis

After the Second World War , FTM Schwabing also had teams in the sport of table tennis .
