The Volleyball Club Dresden is a volleyball club from Dresden and was founded in 1996 as a result of a social project. Since its founding, the club has achieved a top position in German youth volleyball through the continuous expansion of its youth performance center. Starting in 2003, many German championship titles and top placements in the various male age groups could be achieved.

In 2012 the adult team was promoted to the Bundesliga. At the end of the 2012/2013 season, the club was promoted to the 1st Volleyball Bundesliga and reached the play-off quarter-finals in the 2013/2014 season. In the following season, 2014, the Bundesliga team competed under the name Cloud & Heat Volley Dresden and thus integrated the name of the new sponsor Cloud & Heat Technologies, an IT company from Dresden, into their name. In December 2014, the Dresden team ended in the first division. Due to an application for insolvency by Spielbetriebs GmbH, the volleyball Bundesliga withdrew the license from Dresden.

The second men's team, which started in the Regionalliga Ost in the 2014/15 season, became the club's unbeaten champions of the division as the club's new number one after the Bundesliga team had left. In the following season the team was the first in the 3rd league east to achieve the next promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga.

In the 2016/2017 season, the first men's team played in the 2nd South Volleyball Bundesliga . The second division squad included 90% players who had already passed through their own youth department. From the fourth day of the season, the team was not on a relegation rank. Only after a defeat on the last day of the match meant a missing set for the youngest team in the 2nd Bundesliga and relegation to the 3rd League East .

After initial difficulties, they reached third place in the third league east at the end of the 2017/2018 season. The 2018/19 season ended in second place. In the 2020/21 season, which was canceled due to the corona pandemic, VC Dresden landed in fourth place and was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga.
