history

Moerser SC was founded in 1985 by Günter Krivec when he outsourced the volleyball department of Moerser TV due to differences of opinion about the direction. He had already been active there as an athlete and had been responsible for the volleyball players since 1974. MTV was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga in 1984 , in which the MSC started and in which it was promoted to the 1st Bundesliga in 1986 . The first guest appearance in the upper house lasted only a year. After the direct rise again, Moers came in third and qualified for the CEV Cup - which they won in the end. In the following two years, the MSC was runner-up and in 1992, seven years after it was founded, German champion for the only time so far (and thus the first all-German champion after reunification). In the final Bayer Wuppertal was defeated 3-2 and 3-1. The beginning of the 1990s, with volleyball legend “Hammer-Schorsch” Georg Grozer , was the MSC's most successful period.

After solid season results, several relegations and promotions followed each other as a result of financial difficulties from 2001, before Moerser SC reached at least the quarter-finals of the championship play-offs from 2006 to 2014 with one exception. In 2014 Moers withdrew from the Bundesliga for financial reasons and started in the fourth-class Regionalliga West in the 2014/15 season. After relegation could only be prevented by the withdrawal of Bayer Wuppertal in the first season, promotion to the third division was achieved the following year . In the 2016/17 season , the MSC managed to march straight through and return to the 2nd Bundesliga . Here the young team took 7th place. In the following years, the eagles rose to fourth and third place in the table, although the 2019/20 season was canceled five game days before the end due to the COVID-19 pandemic . Since Moers was the only second division team to initially apply for a license for the Bundesliga, there was an advancement in the area following the withdrawal of the first division teams Alpenvolleys Unterhaching , Heitec Volleys Eltmann and TV Rottenburg . The MSC withdrew this license application a little later for economic reasons.

DVV Cup

The MSC won the DVV Cup twice and was in the final four more times. In 1987 the Moerser Sportclub reached the cup semi-finals as a second division team. In 1991 and 1993 the final was reached and Moers was able to leave the field as the winner both times. In 2006, 2007 and 2009, the MSC also reached the final in the Gerry Weber Stadium , where it lost twice to VfB Friedrichshafen and once to Generali Haching . In the sixth finals in 2013 Moers lost 3-2 to Bayern.

European Cup

After finishing third in the Bundesliga in 1988/89, Moerser SC qualified for the first time for the CEV Cup in 1989/90, which it was the first German men's team to win. After winning the DVV Cup in 1991 and 1993, Moerser SC took part in the European Cup Winners' Cup, where in 1992 third place was achieved. In the Challenge Cup , Moerser SC won without a fight against Odzak from Bosnia-Herzegovina in the first round due to entry problems of the opponent. Against the Belgian representative Aquacare Halen they were able to prevail with 1: 3 in Halen and 3: 0 at home and were eliminated in the 1/16 final after two clear 0: 3 defeats against OK Salonit Anhovo Kanal from Slovenia. In the 2012/13 season, Moerser SC defeated Luxembourgish representative VC Strassen in the second qualifying round of the Challenge Cup and Slovakian champion VK Chemes Humenné in the third qualifying round with two 3-0 victories and lost in the round of 16 against Delecta Bydgoszcz from Poland 0: 3 in Moers and 1: 3 in Bromberg .

Women

The volleyball women played in the third division from 2012 , but were withdrawn in late October 2013.

Hall

From 1985 to 2008 the Moerser played in the Rheinkamp sports center before it had to be closed due to deficiencies in fire protection and was finally demolished. The "Adler" then played in a replacement hall in the Adolfinum , which was upgraded for the Bundesliga for 100,000 euros. In the summer of 2010, the German Volleyball League decided after two years to no longer allow an exception for the Moerser SC, as this hall does not meet the requirements for the Bundesliga (hall height). In order to avoid forced relegation, the MSC moved to the RWE sports hall after Mülheim for the next two years (the Adler continued to play their home games in the CEV Cup in the Adolfinum in Moers). On March 18, 2010 it was decided to build a new sports hall on the site of the demolished sports center. The sports park was completed after 18 months of construction. Customers of the ENNI Group could decide on the name, after submitting over 70 proposals, the name Enni-Sportpark Rheinkamp was chosen from five final options . On January 27, 2013, the MSC played their first home game in the new hall, but they lost 0: 3 in the sold-out Sportpark CV Mitteldeutschland (21: 25, 24: 26, 18: 25).

Handball

The handball department of the MSC was merged with the handball players of the TV Asberg and the TV Kapellen to form the Moerser Adler HSG in 2009 . The first team currently plays in the association league. For the 2015/16 season, the Moerser Adler HSG was dissolved in the senior sector. Moerser SC founds its own department with four senior teams. The first team plays in the district league.

basketball

In 1989 a basketball department was established. The complex history of basketball in Moers should be brought into calm waters and it should be linked to the successes of FBC Rheinkamp and Moerser TV. The successes were not long in coming: in the first season, the male C and B youth championships became district champions. The male B youth was then one of the strongest in all of North Rhine-Westphalia. In 1991 the men's team won the Lower Rhine Cup. The department did not develop as expected, so that the first exit took place in 1992. Then in 1996 a new beginning. With the help of the then department head Ron Greenwade, there were also quick successes. Greenwade had previously played in the upper league for BG Lintfort and immediately led the men from the 2nd district league into the 1st district league (he scored 105 points in one game!). In 1998 the female B-youth became district champion. This attempt was unsuccessful. Greenwade left the club, the game was continued for a year with two youth teams, then came the end in 2000.
