The 2007/08 season of the volleyball Bundesliga began on September 29, 2007 and ended on April 19, 2008. VfB Friedrichshafen became German champions for the ninth time . For the first time there were live broadcasts of Bundesliga games on television.

Teams

This season the following twelve teams played in the first division:

VfB Friedrichshafen started as the defending champion. The team of Stelian Moculescu was after winning the Triples (master, Cup Winners' Cup, Champions League winner) in the previous year again as favorite. Moers signed the experienced national player Ralph Bergmann and Olympic champion Guido Görtzen in the summer in order to do significantly better than last season. Berlin and Unterhaching also tried to push the runner-up from Düren with financial investments. Bad Dürrenberg / Spergau and Hamburg came from the second division. The rhein-main volley club emerged from a merger of the second division clubs TuS Eintracht Wiesbaden and tg 1862 Rüsselsheim .

Season course

Friedrichshafen confirmed its favorite role and remained unbeaten in the 22 games of the main round with a set ratio of 66: 8. Behind them a close race for second place in the table developed. Berlin secured this position with a 3-0 win on the last match day against Moers, while Haching slipped to fourth place after a defeat against Eltmann. After three consecutive finals, Düren was unable to build on the successes of recent years. Königs Wusterhausen reached the playoffs for the first time . While Bad Dürrenberg managed to stay in the league, the newly promoted rhein-main volley and Hamburg had to go back to the second division.

In the quarter-finals, Friedrichshafen, Berlin and Moers prevailed in the best-of-three series with two wins each. In the duel between Haching and Düren, it came to the play-off after 3-0 home wins. A third game was also necessary in the semifinals between Berlin and Moers. Haching won the bronze medal against Moers. In the first game of the final series, the SCC forced VfB into the tie-break , but then missed the equalizer in the best-of-five in their own hall. Thus Friedrichshafen was able to defend its title for the fourth time in a row with the third win.
