The 2005/06 season of the volleyball Bundesliga began on October 5, 2005 and ended on May 6, 2006. VfB Friedrichshafen became German champions for the seventh time .

Teams

This season the following twelve teams played in the first division.

VfB Friedrichshafen started as the defending champion. With Essen, Markranstädt, Oststeinbek and Rüsselsheim, there were four newcomers to the first division.

Season course

Friedrichshafen dominated the main round. At home, VfB only gave one set, while away there was their only defeat. Düren was responsible for both losses. The home win of the runner-up was the first success in the club's history against the defending champion. Berlin was able to defeat evivo in its own hall, but in the end the SCC finished third in the table with four defeats. Markranstädt qualified as a promoted player for the play-offs . Essen managed to stay in the league, while Oststeinbek and Rüsselsheim went back to the second division.

The first three teams in the table prevailed in two games in the quarter-finals. Unterhaching managed to turn in the best-of-three after a 3-0 away defeat in Eltmann . Friedrichshafen completed the semifinals without losing a set and Düren was able to repeat his success from the previous year against Berlin. The Charlottenburg team then secured third place against Unterhaching. The final went for the first time since the 1995/96 season over the full distance of five games. Düren responded with home wins to the defeats in Friedrichshafen and finally the home advantage was the decisive factor in favor of VfB, which was able to defend its title.
