The Hypo Tirol AlpenVolleys Haching were a men's volleyball team that played in the Bundesliga . It was created in 2017 through a cooperation between the former German Bundesliga club TSV Unterhaching and the then Austrian champion Hypo Tirol volleyball team Innsbruck and played with a wildcard from the 2017/18 season . In 2020 the cooperation was terminated and no license for the coming season was applied for.

history

In October 2016, the Volleyball Bundesliga (VBL) announced that it would award a wildcard for the first time in the top German division for the 2017/18 season in order to fill vacant starting positions in the league. The TSV Unterhaching was four times 2009-2013 DVV Cup winners become and three German runners-up before the club had retired in 2014 from the first division after the departure of the main sponsor for financial reasons. With the wildcard rule, the Hachinger showed interest in returning. In order to be able to meet the requirements, they entered into a cooperation with the Hypo Tirol volleyball team Innsbruck . The Innsbruck team had won the Austrian championship ten times in the past few years and, given the lack of competition at home, were looking for new paths.

The league granted the German-Austrian project a special permit. In the 2017/18 season , the new team played for the first time under the name Hypo Tirol Alpenvolleys Haching in the German Bundesliga. The license came from Unterhaching.

In the first season, the club reached the semi-finals of the Bundesliga playoffs and took third place. In the 2017/18 DVV-Pokal, the alpine volleys were subject to TSV Herrsching in the round of 16 .
