The Kirkuk Olympic Stadium is a multifunctional stadium in Kirkuk , Kirkut Governorate , Iraq . It is mostly used for soccer games and also has a tartan track . The audience capacity is given as 30,000 to over 40,000.

The stadium was built in 1982 by an Indian construction company for the Olympic Games , but they never took place. In 1986 the Palestine Cup between Bahrain , Kuwait , Iraq and the United Arab Emirates was played in the stadium.

After the fall of Saddam Hussein's regime in 2003, at least 500 Kurds who had previously been displaced returned to Kirkuk and settled in the stadium. Some of the families lived in the stadium for more than six years before moving on.

The stadium was then renovated for around 20 billion Iraqi dinars (approx. 11.7 million euros ) and expanded with a hotel and two training grounds, among other things. The construction work was carried out by the Iraqi Ministry of Youth and Sports. Construction started in 2011, the planned completion originally in 2015. In January 2020 the budget for the project was increased to 33.5 billion dinars (approx. 25.2 million euros).

The Kirkuk Olympic Stadium is the home stadium of Kirkuk FC .
