The gymnastics and sports club Herrsching e. V. is a sports club from Herrsching am Ammersee in Bavaria , whose volleyball men's team plays in the 1st Bundesliga .

Club history

After the Herrsching men's gymnastics club, founded in 1909, and the lawn sports club that was created in 1925 when the footballers split off, the Herrsching gymnastics and sports club was founded on December 14, 1947 at the beginning of the Second World War. At first he was part of the football, gymnastics and fistball departments. According to the homepage of the Bavarian Handball Association, the handball players joined the team a year later. On January 8, 1972, seventeen sailors and three rowers joined the TSV as a water sports department; the year before, the table tennis department started its sports operations. The rehabilitation sports groups, which had been part of the gymnastics department since 1996, founded their own department for rehabilitation sports in 2001. While the fistball players have not been part of the Ammersee club's offer since 2013, there is now also a badminton department and a basketball leisure group.

In the seventies, volleyball was played for the first time at TSV. First of all, the female members were successful. Sara Goller, who later became an Olympic participant, learned to dig and dump as a teenager in Herrsching. Male children and adolescents first played an essential role in the late 1990s and after the turn of the millennium. In 2005 and 2008 the youth took part in the German championships under coach Maximilian Hauser , a year earlier the men's team had been promoted to the state league. Via the Bayern League, the team made it to the Regionalliga Südost in 2009, and after relegation, they were promoted again directly. In the following season, TSV Herrsching took third place in what was then the third-highest German division and thus qualified for the newly created Third League East . Here TSV took first place in the table with equal points in front of SV Schwaig and rose to the second league south together with Middle Franconia. After a third place in the 2013/14 season , Herrsching was promoted to the Bundesliga. In the first season 2014/15 , the result at the end of the normal round was eighth and in the pre-playoffs Herrsching lost to Chemie Volley Mitteldeutschland . In the following season , the self-proclaimed "coolest club in the world" took seventh place in the table and, after a success in the pre-playoffs, reached the quarter-finals, which he lost to VfB Friedrichshafen . In the 2016/17 and 2017/18 seasons, Herrsching qualified for the playoff quarter-finals with a sixth place in the main round, but lost both times to the United Volleys Rhein-Main , but in 2017/18 only in the decider. Also in 2018/19 the 7th place in the main round made the direct jump into the playoff quarter-finals, where the Herrschinger team were eliminated in the playoff against the Alpenvolleys Haching . At the end of the 2019/20 season, which was prematurely broken off by the corona pandemic , Herrsching was in 5th place in the table.

Since the 2018/19 season, TSV Herrsching's volleyball players have been competing in the Bundesliga under the name WWK Volleys Herrsching .
