history
founding
Today's Hypo Tirol volleyball team developed from the former IAC volleyball club . In 1997 the volleyball department decided to set up its own business and founded its own club, Volleyball Team Tirol. Hannes Kronthaler, a player of the club and managing director of Ing.Hans Lang GmbH, took over the club as manager in 1998 and looked for main sponsors for the club, who have since appeared in the club's name. Hypo Bank Tirol has been the main sponsor since 2004.

Championship and cup
The club has played in the first Austrian Bundesliga since the 1997/98 season and qualified for the European Cup for the first time in the 2000/01 season. In the 2003/04 season, the club won the Austrian Cup. The first much acclaimed Austrian championship title was celebrated in the 2004/05 season and has been brought back to Tyrol over 30 years since ESV Pradl Innsbruck in 1971. The Austrian double (championship title and cup win) was successfully defended in the following 2005/06 season. In the 2008/09 season the double could be repeated. In the seasons 2009/10, 2010/11, 2011/12, 2013/14, 2014/15, 2015/16 and 2016/17 Hypo Tirol was also Austrian champion.
The Austrian Cup has been won five times. After the 2006/07 regulation change, according to which only Austrian players are allowed to play in the cup competition, the 2007/08 cup was won with the Austrian core of the first team, as well as the club's U-21 and U-19 youngsters.
Thanks to the installation of a full-time youth coordinator in 2013/14, the junior division of the Tyrolean volleyball team has seen a steep upward trend since then. Almost 120 young people experience professional and performance-appropriate training and successfully take part in the Tyrolean and Austrian championships. All female and male young volleyball players are looked after by a total of six highly qualified trainers. Numerous Tyrolean championship titles and top 3 placements have been achieved in the history of the Hypo Tirol volleyball team to date.

The first participation in a European competition was in 2000/01 at the CEV Cup, in which the Tyroleans were able to defeat the Dürener TV in the qualification, to play for group victory with Noliko Maaseik and to take second place. The first highlight in the club's history was the third place in the European Top Teams Cup 2004, whereby the qualification for the premier class of worldwide club volleyball, the European Champions League, could be achieved.
The club has participated in the European Champions League a total of eleven times. In the 2006/07 and 2007/08 seasons, the Hypo Tirol volleyball team was runner-up in Austria and qualified for the European CEV Cup in those seasons.
After Hypo Tirol took fourth place in the group in the 2005/06 season with victories over Ortec Rotterdam Nesselande and Unicaja Almería , Innsbruck will start in the Champions League in 2006/07 . In group A they met the German representative evivo Düren , the former overall winners Tours VB ( France ) and Lokomotive Belgorod ( Russia ) as well as Portol Drac Palma Mallorca ( Spain ) and OK Budućnost Podgorica ( Montenegro ). Each team played five home and five away games.
In the 2008/09 season the Hypo Tirol volleyball team played internationally in the CEV Cup and survived the first round against the Romanian top club CVM Tomis Constanța . In the second round, the Tyroleans were eliminated against the Olympiacos Piraeus team from Greece.
In 2009/10, Hypo Tirol met the teams of Lube Banca Marche Macerata , Noliko Maaseik and Budvanska Rivijera Budva in Group C in the Champions League . The Tyroleans were able to qualify for the playoffs for the first time with second place. Subsequently, the team won the knockout game against VfB Friedrichshafen and narrowly missed the final 4. In the end it was the most successful season in the club's history.
In the following seasons, the team was eliminated in the group stage or in the qualifying round.
Cooperation with TSV Unterhaching
In October 2016, the German Volleyball Bundesliga (VBL) announced that for the 2017/18 season, a wildcard would be awarded for the first time for the top German division in order to fill free starting places in the league. Since the Innsbruckers were looking for new ways in view of the lack of competition at home, they entered into a cooperation with the former German cup winner and runner-up TSV Unterhaching . The league granted the German-Austrian project a special permit, while the Hypo Tirol team was eligible to play in the second Austrian Bundesliga North. In the 2017/18 season , the new team will play in the German Bundesliga under the name Hypo Tirol Alpenvolleys Haching .
