The group stage of this year's edition of the Volleyball Champions League consisted of five groups of four teams each. While twelve teams were set for this main round, a further eight from a previous warm-up round from a pool of 24 teams had to qualify. After the field of participants was completed and the clubs were drawn into their groups. Each team played at home and away against each of the three opponents. There were three points for a 3-0 or 3-1 win, two for a 3-2 win and one point for a 3-2 defeat. The first two in a group and three thirds qualified for the playoffs. There they determined three participants for the Final Four in two rounds, each with home and away games. The host of the Final Four was the fourth participant to qualify directly after the group stage.
