The first three rounds were played in the knockout system , with only two duels taking place in the first round. The two winners of the third round qualified for the group stage. There 20 teams played in five groups of four in the mode everyone against everyone . Each team competed at home and away against each of the three opponents. There were three points for a 3-0 or 3-1 win, two for a 3-2 win and one point for a 3-2 defeat. For the ranking of the groups, the number of games won was decisive, followed by the number of points achieved, the set quotient, the point quotient and the direct comparison. The five group winners and the three best runners-up reached the quarter-finals, which are played with home and away legs. This also applies to the semi-finals. The final will be played in one game.
